Could Utah win the Associated Press National Championship?
It appears as if the BCS Championship Game is set with a Final Four of Oklahoma & Texas from the Big XII, and the National Semifinal between Alabama & Florida in Saturday's SEC Championship Game. But, just like any other season since its inception, there are a lot of mathematical possibilities that still remain that could sure take the bloom off the BCS.
The BCS Guru explains how, if Florida beats Alabama, and Hawaii loses to Cincinnatti, then Texas may get a shot at a rematch between the Longhorns & The Sooners for the ADT Waterford Crystal National Championship Trophy.
How do the Utes factor into this argument, you say?
Well, if its Texas/OU II in the BCS Championship Game, then that means Florida-whose the 2nd ranked team in the Associated Press Poll-would get bumped out of the National Title Game for the BCS, yet move up to #1 in the rankings of the AP. No team that's done that has ever not been named the National Champion.
So, there's your split National Championship. Alarmingly simple chain of events, since Brian Kelly's Bearcats are no pushovers...and Florida's-I believe-a double digit favorite in the Georgia Dome in Atlanta on Saturday.
Here's where it gets interesting, though...The best matchup Florida could hope for in its BCS Bowl would be an undefeated Utah. If the Utes could somehow top their old head coach...THUNDERCATS, GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
