Football media again prove they don't watch football
If the candidate list for the Eddie Robinson College Football Coach of the Year Award proves anything, it's that the elite football media does not watch college football.
The candidates for the Coach of the Year are:
Bob Stoops, Oklahoma
Urban Meyer, Florida
Mack Brown, Texas
Nick Saban, Alabama
Pete Carroll, USC
Kyle Whittingham, Utah
Mike Leach, Texas Tech
Joe Paterno, Penn State
Chris Petersen, Boise State
Hmmm... that list of teams looks familiar.... Where have I seen that exact same list of teams????
FINAL 2008 BCS FOOTBALL STANDINGS
1) Oklahoma
2) Florida
3) Texas
4) Alabama
5) USC
6) Utah
7) Texas Tech
8) Penn State
9) Boise State
Wow. Very creative guys. Very creative. Way to study the season.
Which is not to say that the nine coaches of the top nine BCS teams are not deserving - clearly they had great seasons. But... didn't you kinda expect them to have great seasons?
What about Cincinnati's Brian Kelly? All he's really done is taken a mediocre team that was outmatched in the Big East and build it up with 21 (and counting wins in the last two seasons). Under Kelly, Cincinnati went from nowhere to Big East Conference champs. The #12 ranked Bearcats are playing in their first ever BCS Bowl. And the guy isn't even nominated?? Seriously??
Brady Hoke... Ball State... 12-1... nearly breaking into the BCS? Nada?
Turner Gill... Buffalo... MAC champs... pulling off the Ball State upset? Nothing?
Disgusting.
Eh.... Don't feel too bad about it, Brian Kelly. Looking at the BCS standings, you probably would have gotten the nod if the writers could name twelve coaches.
