Highly touted Husker QB to transfer

Nebraska Cornhuskers backup QB Harrison Beck, the supposed jewel of the Bill Callahan 2005 recruiting class, has decided to transfer and has been released from his scholarship.

More from the USA Today

"I'm disappointed that things occurred the way they did," Callahan said after practice Monday. "I was hopeful that (the situation) could be rectified. But it's Harrison's choice."

Beck marks the 2nd QB in two seasons to transfer out of the Husker Nation. The other was former starter Joe Dailey, who finds himself No. 1 on the depth chart this year for the University of North Carolina.

    Good choice of OU.
I've seen him play and practice that could help NE. Just watch out for his mommy to write him another note

T-Mac, I'm hoping Stoops will pick him up. But I guess all I can do is hope.

If he whines this much now, and has him mother doing his bidding...he is clearly not the leader that Nebraska had hoped he could develop into. The problem with these "kids" are they all were #1 where they come from, then they think they should be #1 when they are thrown into a talent pool like any major university has...the kid needs to grow up and learn to be a team player, bottom line.

    We are better without him.

T-Mac, the stats I have seen on this guy are not that great, and apparently he has missed a lot of practices due to a sore shoulder. I'm just being wishful about this whole QB situation for OU. As long as OU beats Oregon, Texas, and O-State, I will be happy person. Correct me if I am wrong, but you would probably be a happy person also if the Tide beat Auburn this season-you are Bama fan aren't you? Its funny, because I am from Oklahoma but I am currently stationed in Alabama, and I know all about the Bama Auburn hype, and those fans are f$cking crazy!!

I agree with post #4.You have to be a team player and do whats best for the team. The Horns in recent years have been sucessful because of their depth in alot of postions. To play for one of the major programs you have to earn you spot on the team and then try to keep it.
Hey OU fan you didnt mention A&M or Baylor

Hey Tomcat, I'm really not worried about Baylor, and yeah they did take OU into overtime last year, but big deal. If O-State knew how to finish a d@mn football game when they have the lead, they would have beaten Texas TWICE in the past 2 years. So I'm not too worried. A&M, ahh, they have improved a lot but in my opinion they are not too much of a concern right now. You should be worried about OU Texas. Also Ohio State.

Tomcat, you should be worried about Oklahoma State.

comment #1, i don't think that stoops picking beck would be a good idea, with bomar's headaches why would stoops want another one. clearly this young 18 year old is a whiny baby and doesn't deserve nebraska tradition and even ou's tradition. Stoops will recruit a leader and not a momma's boy

He is transferring so he does not have the humiliation of turding his pants when hit by USC linebackers.

You must be confusing Beck with Dailey. Joe Dailey was the Husker QB starter a couple of years back. When Coach Callahan took over the Head Coach job at Nebraska, Dailey lasted just one year. He was not the type of QB they needed to run the West Coast offense.

Dailey transferred to NCST last year. He is the starting QB this season. I dont know at this time where Harrison Beck has gone off to.

Hey, what about the Keller kid from A-State coming to NE? He can't play for another year, and only has one year of eligibility left. Just wondering how that will affect the other young QB's who are going to lose their job when he is eligible?

Callahan is a joke. This program is in shambles.

Larry, He's right about Beck looking at NCST. Dailey transferred to NC last year and will be the starting QB in guess what, a West Coast Offense.

How can you say the huskers program is in shambles? in only a couple years of the new offense we are a favorite to win the north this year and likely a 2 loss season or better. I dont know who your team is Jake, but the Huskers can play with anybody this season as long as their O-line comes to play, and you will find that out on sep. 16th in Cal. Dont bash the huskers if your just gonna give something weak like "callahan is a joke".

you guys really need to get your facts straight! beck is already practicing with the team here at ncsu, and dailey didn't even break the depth chart at qb, marcus stone is the entrenched starter. get your information straight before you make an uninformed comment please.

post #15: Keller was rated #1 QB in the pac 10 coming into this season (rivals.com)
post #19: Wow! beck is actually practicing?? i hope you have seen it with your own eyes... last i knew he was whining about a sore shoulder or a hamstring or both, thats why he was 5th on the depth chart here in huskerland... thats why his mom complained about the snaps for him... and thats why is isn't on any team worth mentioning anymore... last year he was too busy watching opposing teams cheerleaders to learn much, i dont think he has the power to play much beyond where he is now... thats why he was 1/10, 1 interception, 23 total yards... all his balls were lobbs, spirals... but lobbs Good luck on that buddy

Dailey didn't even break the depth chart? Duh! Dailey would have to be Superman to break the depth chart at NC State, since he's co-#1 at NC for the Tarheels. Talk about someone needing to get their facts straight before making uninformed comments!

Lets get this all straightened out. Dailey went to NORTH CAROLINA 'last' year, set out the entire year, and is now in a battle for the starting qb job there. It is Beck that transferred to NC STATE this year, and he will be sitting until 2007. Interesting side note, in 2004 former NU QB Curt Dukes transferred to yet another North Carolina school (Wake Forest). Wake Forest ironically in turn was the original college home of Nebraska's current QB, Mr. Zac Taylor.

I'm only disappointed that Zac won't be around next year when NU travels to Wake Forest to play. Guess I'll have to settle for watching Sam Keller make that start in tabacoo country after his trek from the ASU Sun DEVIL's, not to be confused with North Carolina's 4th Div 1A football team....the Blue DEVIL's of Duke.

I think its time that these schools return the favor and send in some basketball transfers... we could use them
