Nebraska fires AD Steve Pederson
Nebraska AD Steve Pederson has been fired in the wake of the team's worst home loss in nearly a half-century.
Pederson, along with coach Bill Callahan, has been heavily criticized after a series of one-sided losses this season. The most recent was a 45-14 loss to Oklahoma State on Saturday with former Cornhuskers coach Tom Osborne and his 1997 national title team in attendance.

Try it this way: a href="http://URL">TEXT
Now, I took the at the end off of that small HTML code, so it would show up in the comment. You have to add those, then it'll work.
"Here then" is the link to Fanblogs with the at the end.
Hopefully, everything shows up in this comment properly. I can't preview without getting an error message here at Fanblogs for some reason.

OK, after the word "TEXT", there should be a "
There should also be a "" at the end.

There should be a "less than sign" at the beginning of the code, a "less than sign" directly after "TEXT", followed by a "forward slash", then the letter "a", then a "greater than sign" at the end.
Everything else in the HTML code I displayed showed up.

OK, so the Nebraska AD is fired. Apparently there's now a countdown clock on Callahan and his staff.
(Insert the best Rodney Dangerfield voice here): Place your bets, place your bets.
Who is the most likely Husker man to be Callahan's replacement? Or does the new AD have to be hired before any guesses can be made?

Hallalujah! The word here in Lincoln is that Dr. Tom Osborne will be interim A.D. until the ship gets steadied and back on track, and that Callahan and co. are out immediately after the Colorado game Thanksgiving weekend. Rumor also has it that the big boosters here have promised unlimited money in bringing in a top tier new regime! Go Big Red!...

This is fascinating. I think I've learned more about computer programming from this thread...
Ahem, my wife doesn't really follow college football. Yet, when I told her NE fire their AD, she laughed before replying, "Is anyone surprised?"
I'd like to know which sports analyst it was who proclaimed NE was back, after they had beaten Nevada. Given, following that same victory, Pederson extended Callahan's contract to 2012, it's no fat, friggen wonder the man was axed.
I hate to see people fired; I really do. And, in another thread, somebody was getting on S FL fans for the way they were acting, what with flags, banners, stickers, and the like. Trust me, people, NE football is a religion out here. I'm not just talking flags, banners, or stickers. There are blankets, mail boxes, bird feeders, golf bags, windmills, cars, trucks, and SUV's for crying out loud. What there isn't is an atmosphere of family within a team that should be pulling together. Instead, they're drifting apart.
I truly hate seeing people fired, but for the good of the kids playing the game, and lets face it; it is about them; it's time for a change in coaching staff.

I think this is a LONG TIME IN COMING. Pederson put himself on shaky ground initially by firing Frank Solich after a ten win season. And it's gone downhill from there.
Pederson passed over future stud HC Bo Pelini and conducted his own, one-man search to find Bill Callahan - a man lacking college coaching credibility & an offensive style that was the complete antithesis of Nebraska football history (and recruiting practices).
You can make an exceptionally legitimate case that Callahan has run Nebraska football into the ground - all under Pederson's watch.
Pederson wouldn't pull the trigger on the coach, so now he is gone.
Anyone want to wager on what comes next? I believe Callahan has as many as two games to prove that he should keep his job, but... even then... I wouldn't start construction on a pool at Chez Callahan just yet.

Now that we have teh HTML worked out, lets return to the topic of this thread.
A team gives up 457.14 yards per game and they fire the offensive coordinator?
With the #38 offense and #104 defense nationally, maybe they need to look at the other side of the ball.

Yeah, my bet is that Callahan is already fired but he just hasn't been officially informed of it yet. The question is, when do they pull the trigger? When the interim AD is installed, or do they wait until the permanent AD is hired? I guess it depends on how much patience they have.
It's really a shame how fast that program was trashed.

I'm going to suggest a replacement...and this is going to come out of left field, and a lot of Cornhusker fans are going to look like they just tasted Castor Oil right after I type his name...
It's questionable that this would happen in the first place. For starters, Callahan-though he may be a dead man coaching-isn't fired yet. Secondly, the replacement I think makes the most sense, for more than one reason, is also a currently employed head coach of a major BCS conference school. Thirdly, he's about to be fired himself.
But, I'm going to make a few statements about him, before I tell you his name...
The guy recruits like a madman, and not only recruits, but he recruits PERFECTLY for his system. What's more, he develops the talent he brings in. His program has churned out NFL wide receivers, interior lineman, tackles, defensive lineman, linebackers, and more than a few guys in the secondary. He's also LEGENDARY in terms of his ground-based attack.
He has a reputation for extracting maximum effort while playing against dealers with a stacked deck from a recruiting standpoint. He'll never be able to bring truly top flight talent to his program in his current position.
When Nick Saban was fired, he was briefly consulted by our AD and our Administration after the Capital One Bowl. His only suggestion for a replacement was this man. His comments were to the same effect that I've stated. The guy recruits effectively, knows who and what to look for to recruit for his system, and develops players better than anyone, while also getting them up for almost every game, and keeping them up.
If you ask me, he may be on the hot seat, but it's only because his fanbase is so blinded by said program's recent history and current situation, they aren't thinking clearly. Admittedly, he's made a few mistakes, but I sincerely think this guy would be a perfect fit, especially if the Huskers wanted to return to the old double wingback, power I-back option oriented attack of old...
His name is Houston Nutt...
Now...Let me ask you this...Had I mentioned his name at the beginning of this post...Would you have felt differently about everything else I had to say about this man prior to reading his name now, at the end?
Think about it, Huskers fans...The guy always fields a team that is competitive in the SEC, against much better recruiting programs with much more to offer recruits. He never...never EVER fields a team that isn't on the field and focused with intensity...
I think he might be your man...

I think Nebraska wants to return to the days of a ground-based attack, and I think Tom Osbourne will ensure that happens, that being part of the reason he was named as the replacement.
If that's the case, there's nobody whose going to be a better choice than Nutt...He's a guy who designed that Arkansas offense and was the playcaller/OC for a long time...

Autigerman, Pederson was the man who fired Solich after a 10 win season, one year removed from playing for a national title.
Solich being Osbourne's hand-picked successor.
Pederson also gave Callahan an extension to 2012, which basically means that he wouldn't pull the trigger, even though the higher ups saw the chinks in the armor that the past few games have exposed.
In other words, if he wouldn't pull the trigger, then he was going to take the bullet himself, and Callahan probably will also not survive, as well. Seems as though if this is all true, then Pederson was an idiot for not saving his job and axing the guy and admitting the mistake that was made, monumental though it may be. Sort've makes you scratch your head and think Pederson may have had a pride/arrogance issue.
But, let's be honest, Autigerman...You're the last guy that needs to talk about the Administration or higher ups meddling in AD affairs...Need I mention the Little Emperor himself? Bobby Lowder needs his own message board to properly tell his sordid, megalomaniacal tale of power-hungry, paranoid, punchdrunk on control tentatcles and how they've been wrapped around the University-and the AD-for years...

TE (#23):
You have a good argument with the qualifications that Houston Nutt brings to the table. However, I think he has as much of a chance of being the next HC at Nebraska as I do.
Houston Nutt is not a Nebraska man; he's an outsider, and he would be facing an uphill battle right off the bat with all the baggage he's carrying from a place where he used to play.
My perception is that the most important thing for the new AD is to hire someone who's not only qualified, but is someone who the Nebraska community can rally behind and support immediately. I don't think the name Houston Nutt, fairly or not, is going to be a name that unifies the administration, alumni and fan base.
So, I've got to think that the requirements of the next HC there, in addition to qualifications, are going to include the name Nebraska in it somewhere. They went outside the program with Callahan and look where they are now.
Just my $.02.

Pederson and Callahan wanted everyone to wait until Callahan's system took hold, and his recruits were playing, so we could see what kind of coach he really was. Be careful what you wish for, boys!
Hopefully, Nebraska can get some leadership that will embrace the Huskers' history instead of shunning everything and everyone from the past, as Pederson and Callahan have done.
I'm not a big Nebraska fan, but I have always respected the Huskers, and realize that college football is a better place with a strong Nebraska program.

It does now look like Nebraska will buy out the rest of Bill Callahan's contract. One thing that I will give Bill Callahan credit for...he instilled the forward pass in their offense. He did realize that the option/wishbone would not win you a championship modern day. But yeah his record was not good at Nebraska.

I'm sorry! I've been pointing this out for over two years. Bill Callahan is the worst thing that ever happened to any football program - even USC. After a nice win over that team early - USC's ranking continues to plummet along with Nebraska's. So, having Nebraska on your schedule is not a kue any longer. I watched this clown destroy the Raider's and I've watched him dismantle Nebraska. I'm sorry that all the Nebraska faithful had to argue with me about this. This guy has recruited nothing. Mostly all three-stars and he's playing in a four-star conference. Eventually, you are going to lose! That day is here. Nebraska needs to go back to playing good ol' fashioned hard-nosed football like they used to play. And, BTW, you can win games by pounding the rock. Nothing has ever changed in football. Even Bill Walsh, put a premium, on getting the ball to Roger Craig. He touched it alot more times than Jerry Rice ever did.
Nope, West Virginia still wins by running the ball. Oklahoma is doing a real good job of it. Most of the real good teams do run the ball. It's run first and pass second. Running is what sets up the pass - usually. Sometimes it can be the other way around - but not often. Bring back Frank Solich or bring in Tommie Frazier or Turner Gill. Bring in someone who knows what Nebraska football is all about.Tommie Trojan

What goes around comes around. I'm not a Husker fan, but I don't feel ill against the team of its fans. Yet, it still burns me that Solich got fired. It was dishonorable, and I think NE football is paying for that mistake. I don't know if bringing him back is the right thing to do or who would be a better idea, if not Solich. For all I know, Nutt's the guy.
I do know this. Offensively speaking, they're not a lost cause. Defensively is where they need to get back to the drawing board, because nothing is working on that side of the ball.

Nebraska should have fired this guy four years ago, but I guess it's better late than never.
Who will be the next Nebraska coach? Who knows.
It won't be Houston Nutt, and here's why.
As far as Nutt goes, WR Damian Williams, QB Mitch Mustain, and Off Cord Gus Malzahn all blew up in his face.
Then his record against the top SEC teams.
Nutt v.s
LSU 3-6
Alabama 5-4 (keep in mind the Bama coaching mess)
Auburn 5-4
Florida 0-3
Georgia 0-5
Tennessee 2-3That's 15-25 against the top six teams in the SEC.
Zero SEC Championships in nine years.
Nutt is 2-5 in Bowl Games.
Then there's the USC blow outs,
2005, Arkansas lost 70-17
2006, Arkansas lost 50-14That's being out scored 120-31 on National TV.
They'll make a run a Barry Alverez, and offer him the AD and head coaching job, he'll decline.
The next coach will be someone that none of us will see coming. They'll bring in a top Off, or Def Cord.

Saban was fired? Houston Nutt's weakness is his playcalling. It's too predictable and has been for a few years now. Anybody see that Auburn game? Everybody "knows" Arkansas can't pass, but yet they have a 70 percent completion rate on first down.
Fisher DeBerry isn't at Air Force anymore.
