Nebraska search coming to an end?
Just wading through the rumors, insights and innuendos... but it appears that the search for a new Nebraska football coach is drawing to an end.
As perviously mentioned, LSU DC Bo Pelini and Buffalo HC Turner Gill appear to be the front-runners.
The Huskers have scheduled a 4pm team meeting today.
Although Husker officials are saying this is a routine team meeting to discuss off-season conditioning & team issues, there are strong rumors that the impromptu meeting -- which was announced via text message to the team -- will be to announce (read as: announce but not introduce?) a new head football coach.
There are confirmed reports that Nebraska has already conducted interviews with both LSU DC Bo Pelini and Buffalo HC Turner Gill, and may have interviewed Wake Forest HC Jim Grobe on Monday in Atlanta, according to some reports. Wake Forest confirmed that Grobe was not in the office on Monday.
The University of Buffalo initially rescheduled Gill's regular end-of-the-year press conference today because Gill was out-of-town, but now that press conference has been suspended indefinitely.
What does all this mean?? Something? Nothing? Who knows? Stay tuned.

I still think that Gill is the man. He's much more pliable for Osborne to work with. He's played under TO for 4-5 years and coached there for a few. The guy has about 7-8 years in TO's system. Turning the offense around to a ball control offense is imperative here. That was coach Osborne's philosophy and I can't see anything else happening here.

Kevin, I was going to e-mail you this, but I decided to let the rest of you in on some of the scoop I've been hearing out of Baton Rouge the past four days...
It seems as if Arkansas AD missed the flight back with the team after their biggest win of the year. They flew back after...
After, that is, talking with Bo Pelini about their head coach opening...
(Not sure how much of that I actually take stock in. I mean, why would you hire the guy that just got half a hundy hung on him at home on Senior Day with a national title on the line...By the guy you just fired?)
OU-Ron's info about the team meeting is from all accounts congruent with what I've been hearing.
There's more disappointing news for LSU on a personal and team level, and if some of it sees the light of day, most of it will be a sobering reality for LSU that hiring great coordinators produces great schematic success and results on the field, but, in this case, may have actually cost LSU a shot at a national title...
Our mentality since Saban left has been to "hire the resume" and we pay our coordinators better than almost anyone other than Tenuta running the D at GT, or Jimbo, the man in waiting out in Tallahassee...But, after the past 96 hours, LSU may either revise that stance somewhat, or simply go pay Tenuta, Bower or someone else megabucks again...
I'm not sure I'm sold on the distraction level and at what price these top flight coordinators come at...Not financially, but in other senses...
Sorry for the rambling, but just had to get it all of my chest...

I heard the Monte Kiffin bit too. It would be a great hire for Nebraska--but I doubt Kiffin would bite.
Gruden (and B. Allen) finally got him some draft choices this year, and his beloved Buc-D is hitting on all cylinders again. He turned down the 49'ers HC job a couple of years ago because he loves Tampa. He hasn't exactly gotten younger since then.
Kiffin is content, and stays put.
Buc fans rejoice!

@4 War Eagle, No not guilt, it was a plan, drawn up weeks in advance between Pellini and the Arkansas AD, you know, take the game into 4 overtimes and then let Arkansas win, can't you read between the lines in TE's post, seems perfectly clear to me...

I don't know if it's terribly wise to brand both Tom Osborne and Tuner Gill as racist -- which is what you are essentially saying -- by implying that Gill was interviewed just because he was black.
I think there are way to many people (black/white/other) that would vouch for both Gill and Osborne.

nothing is implied here, I have the facts (and contacts) that you so obviously lack1) Kiffin was hired 3 weeks ago.
2) Gill (whom i NEVER mentioned) is a patsy and doesn't even know it. Buffalo U is hardly a springboard to a major job.
3) Ask Dr Tom why HE is doing this, only he has the answers.TE

I just heard Ferentz is no longer an option, Miles will bring Mallory on our staff as DC, and retain three assistants from UM...
I also heard the DEFCON Spurrier button has already been pressed in Baton Rouge...
This was on our site earlier...Then, another member of our site had a GameCock Booster blackberry him with this...
"Tell your LSU friends to keep their money in Louisiana and to stop sniffing around our coach."
Looks like Pelini & Miles are goners to Big Blue...
BTW-Much the same is being posted by the guys at Pigskin Football First...
I didn't get that link sent to me until after our guy came on with the USC stuff...All I can say is that the last few days for my e-mail has tested Google's limits...

TE, If in fact Miles is going to Michigan, I guarantee that he not only knew Carr was resigning but had already accepted the job weeks ago, that's probably why the tears were flowing in his news conference last week, he was feeling guilty---another thing, his mind probably wasn't on the Arkansas game...He did that to Okla State

So let me get this straight, TE: You back up your predictions with another homer blog site? They're saying it, so it must be true? That sounds like the type of cover Dan Rather was looking for during his memo-gate. A blog said it. Just brilliant.
Your guys are still saying that Spurrier is coming to Baton Rouge. Where are they getting this stuff, Weekly World News? Wait. They shut that paper down. That's another conspiracy onto itself...
Nobody on here is in any loop. If we were, we wouldn't be touting it on blogs, for starters.

WEA...
I trust the people I've spoken with...and if you had any memory whatsoever, you'd realize that Kevin's friend who runs that Michigan Blog absolute NAILED the Carr retirement way before anyone else said anything about it.
I can also tell you that without me telling him, he also found out yesterday that we had sent a plane up your way to speak with your DC...Though he wasn't sure as to whom we were talking...
People in the loop have heard about the internet...and they don't all mind sharing the juice when they hear it...

TE: Sorry, I'm not that acquainted with Kevin and his friends, but please tell me which guy living in a cave couldn't see that Carr was going to retire, especially after the Ohio State game.
I'm not saying that the internet is totally devoid of any fact. I'm sure my backyard has some gold there if I want to sift through it long enough...
Does Weekly World News still have an online subscription a la Dennis Franchione's?
