Huskers get permission to interview Kelly

The University of Cincinnati has given permission to Nebraska to interview Bearcats head coach Brian Kelly for the vacant Huskers position, according to Todd Cunningham of Rivals' BearcatLair and James Farmer of Scouts' BearcatInsider.

When contacted by the Cincinnati student newspaper, The News Record, officals in the Bearcats athletic department would neither confirm nor deny the reports.

Both Kelly and UC AD Mike Thomas have agreed not to comment on any coaching rumors regarding Kelly for the sake of the team and for recruiting purposes.

"When you're building a program and you're having success, your name is going to get talked about," Kelly said when he was informed that rumors swirling around Nebraska mentioned his name as a possible candidate. "When I know something and you know something, we'll be able to talk about it. Other than that, we're just building a program here. Other than that, it's all speculation. It's going to happen when you're building a program and having success.

"I'm not going to mislead anybody. I'm not going to lie to anybody. This is the way it is. The way it is is that it's all speculation. It happens every year. When you're building a program, your name gets thrown around."

Kelly, who's known for his explosive offenses, won two DI-AA championships at Grand Valley State in Michigan, where he compiled a 118-35-2 record over nine seasons. Kelly then became the coach at Central Michigan, taking a 4-win team and transforming the Chippewas into MAC conference champions in just three seasons.

Kelly, who finished his first season at Cincinnati with a 9-3 record, has also been linked to the coaching search at Michigan.

Why are other Conferences raiding the Big East? First it was the schools, now the coaches. Then people say the Big East is weak, if we are so weak then leave our coaches and schools alone.

    Maurice:

He is more of a MAC coach. The Big East "raided" the MAC. Why don't you leave their coaches alone instead?

    SHA, BigTide, Rammer, T-Mac...

You guys are going to LOVE this...

Saban to LSU, 10 years at 3 mill/year, with a 10 mill buyout, and 2 mill per BCSNCG win...

The bad thing is...I've seen this in more than one place...

Believe me, guys...Forget not believing it...I don't WANT to believe it...

    LOL...

TE as much as your recent posts have indicated that you hate Saban, I can understand your feelings.

Remember you're STILL a Lester guy.

Yes, you're correct...I like the guy, though I've heard some of the stuff the hijinks he pulled on UM while recruiting against them weren't on the up-and-up...But, that's besides the point...I always thought Saban was a lights out recruiter and above-board, and many always compared him only to Zook in terms of his frank and honest demeanor on the trail...

But, that has since proven a woefully misplaced sentiment...

I have been completely unhappy with Bo Pelini's performance as of late, and I wish there were a stronger oversight on Miles' part in terms of knowing what the defense is doing...

IE-Playing a grand total of 5 guys on the DL the ENTIRE Arkansas game...Our two DE's never came off the field, and we rotated a true freshman in at tackle...

We had three guys, who've all started in the past, get DNP's that usually get at least 15-20 snaps/game...

Also, 4th and 10, and the entire stadium knows Dick's going to have to make a play in overtime to-forget winning-keep the game alive...

    Yet, Pelini doesn't blitz...No stunts...No twists...NOTHING...

Just indicative of the defensive regression...You keep those guys on the field and don't sub them, then you're not going to get a dang blitz, Bo...

If you ask me, our downfall isn't offense...We scored at least 28 points against every single opponent this year...But, our personnel & schematic decisions at the end of the year have left many in Tiger Town questioning where Bo's head has been...

Lots of questions, and if the answers are to be believed, they're quite inexcusable on Pelini's apart.

As I stated the other day...For Bo's sake, he had better hope & pray he gets the Nebraska job...Or some other job this offseason...

TE, the ONLY reason that either LSU or Florida isn't sitting on top of this BSC thing is defense.

Who was the guy that coached the Steelers to the Super Bowl win? Bill Cower? Is that it? Anyway, that guy would be one hell of a college coach if he could deal with recruiting. Talk about passion for the game....

You Little 11 guys are hysterical.....however the Big East guys will have the last laugh.

I'm really hoping Oklahoma can pull through and beat Mizzou. A nightmare is brewing as we speak for OSU at this very moment.

Could you imagine getting blown out in back to back to back Title games?

    It's going to be great;)

    Diggs the Mountie (#10):

As an Ohio State fan, I was hoping for a team in the bowl game with a Spread/Read Option offense, or an SEC team. What better way to silence the critics with a win against either one of those options?

    Diggs:

I hate to tell you this, but, WV does not have nearly the defensive unit that Florida had in 2006. That means that Boeckman will probably complete more than one pass. Also, Beanie Wells is an absolute stud right now. Fact is: Troy Smith completely choked in last years NC game. I think the Mounties will score - but don't count on Ohio State being completely shut down either.

Against illinois, on third downs, the Ohio State linebackers would try to "contain" Juice Williams. Needless to say, it didnt work. He would get just what was needed every time. The coaches would have the players ready for Pat White.

Ohio State also has a very good offensive line. Chris Wells is the type of power back, with an AMAZING STIFF ARM, that could be the demise of WVU's defense. They gave up quite a bit to USF on the ground. To win, Todd Boeckmann would just have to stay out of trouble and manage the game.

Nobody is gonna stop White or Slaton either. A good plan would be to "bust em' up". That's the only hope. I would look for this one to be a shootout - with OSU coming out on top.

    ya maybe....

but did you see hart against Ohio State?
    2 yards a carry

Pat White, well idk how to stop him

    gOSU27:

Hart isn't a speed guy and doesn't have enough power to take on the OSU front seven. He's tailormade to be stuffed by big fast defenses. Southern Cal stuffed him last year also. Slaton is a different cat. You might stuff him for awhile, but if he gets a gap and a crease, he's gone. That's all it takes with guys like Slaton and McFadden. But, the good news is that there will be alot of three-and-outs also. That's where OSU will get their edge. It's unlikely that the WV defensive front can hold out against the Buckeye running game. I think the Bucks will wear this team down on the defensive side of the ball.
