UNC buying out Bunting's contract

CarolinaBlue (a Rivals.com family site) is reporting through sources that UNC has begun negotiations to buy Head Coach John Bunting out of his contract. Both Adam and Eddy have media skins on the wall and good contacts within the UNC administration & booster community, so I trust them on this "scoop".

Bunting (25-42 at UNC) has denied reports from the Tarheels flagship station that he would resign this weekend.

"I have heard it. It is absolutely not true," Bunting said to the Raleigh News and Observer.

Bunting's current contract runs through 2009 with $858,600 due to him.

Every head football coach in the ACC kept his job from 2005-2006. That's not going to happen this year. Bunting's days are numbered and he's not the only one on the hot seat. Larry Coker at Miami and Al Groh at UVA might be going with him. We'll see...

Al Groh will not be fired. Maybe if he posts another season like this one next year he will be fired, but I very highly doubt they will get rid of him this year. I mean ... they can't really do much better ...

Not that every coach in the ACC should be fired or anything, but Clemson, BC, and Wake are the only ACC teams that aren't underachieving. It's been an ugly ACC season (unless you're a Tiger, Eagle, or whatever the hell Wake Forest is).
