Northwestern named National Team of the Week
The Football Writers Association of America named the Northwestern Wildcats the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week after they scored 49 unanswered points in their 49-14 rout of Michigan State this weekend. Pollsters for the FWAA's Grantland Rice Super 16 voted on the honor. Army and Texas were the other nominees this week.
Northwestern won by their largest margin of victory in a road conference game since a 41-0 win at Wisconsin in 1943. QB Brett Basanez was 24 of 30 for 331 yards. He was in on 4 total touchdowns as he completed two TD passes and rushed in two TDs. Tyler Sutton rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns while Demetrius Eaton returned a fumble 86 yards for a score.
