Weis has Irish freshmen practice singing

Notre Dame football coach Charlie Weis wants his freshman to learn their play books, practice hard, and to... err... sing like champions today.

Jay paraphrases from Crewcut's press conference discussing the importance of his players knowing the Alma Mater.

"It was marginal. It was terrible yesterday. After watching that game last year where the guys didn't know the alma mater, it's been a pet peeve of mine. I made the guys come in and practice. I made sure the captains and the leadership committee went over it, and they practiced. I think they know the words. But it was awful.

"But you practice stuff like that. We practice celebrating after scoring a touchdown, because some guys just don't get it. We practice chasing an interception on offense to go make a tackle. The alma mater might not seem like a big thing to you guys, but it means a lot to me. It's important that the guys know the words to the alma mater and the fight song. And I think they all got it."

And now, without further ado... the Notre Dame freshmen....

Well, we can all be assured that they won't be singing their alma mater after bowl games. Let's see if they can keep the streak alive at 10 games this year

they may as well learn the USC fight song, they will be hearing that over and over as the men of Troy march up and down the field on the hapless Irish this year tall grass or not

I personally think its almost refreshing to see some school spirit (whether voluntary or involuntary) at a big program in todays world where programs like Notre Dame are seen as pit stops before getting to the NFL.

    GatorMatt Dumbass,
It is sung after EVERY game...not just the victories. The fans stay and sing with them.

It' probably a good idea to sing it after every game, just not the victories, if not, they would probably forget the words.
    Just kidden Irish.

School spirit is a good thing and Coach Weis has his hands full.
Hey JT Irish, GatorMatt was assuming that ND is going to make it to a Bowl this year.Slack up a little dude, I mean with yalls schedule even making it to a Bowl is a heck of an accomplishment. Then yall can sing
    Hookem-Horns

    Hey Tomcat,

ND makes a bowl game no matter what their record is. Even if they have one win. They have a BCS contract that ensures it.

Ha, one thing about Weis, he has and will comment about anything. He better start worrying about the field, it may be a long season for ND if he doesn't pull a miracle..

i only have one thing to say about this blog. who gives a sh$t. i mean the main point of the topic should have been that the ND players who go to such a prestigious school can't even remember their own song. sad.... just sad....

This might explain why ND has sucked so bad recently. The coach doesn't realize they should practice football more than singing.

    Canes Alum,
This may explain why Notre Dame has sucked so badly lately??? Are you serious? A 9-3 season followed by a 10-3 season and two BCS Bowl appearances and $30million in the bank. I mean, it is nothing compared to the stout 7-6 record your 'Canes put up last year before firing your head coach. What, with the brawls, shootings and suspensions, it is a wonder that Shalala hasn't canceled the program.

Miami is a joke. They are about due for another ass whippin' in the tunnel at Notre Dame stadium too!!!!!

    (#22) IrishJT,

Would you rather have 9-3 & 10-3 seasons with no bowl wins or the 2001 national title? Let me know. ;o)

  24. Zac said:

IrishJT: Shalala is the problem, not the solution. She's a proven and convicted liar who's done nothing to improve conditions for Miami's football team. She's only committed to making money anyway she can, not for the good of the university, but to make herself look good. She's either a Hillary Clinton or Janet Reno wanna-be, and neither has the brains for the one nor the guts for the other. They need to get rid of her. Oh, almost forgot, call me the next time the Irish actually win a bowl against a decent team.

IrishJT please remind me when the last championship by ND was. Or if you can't remember back that far, how long has it been since ND has won a bowl game?

I would take 9 bowl games where I had a 5-4 record. It's much more impressive than 0-9, right Irishjt?

  27. IrishJT said:

    posted on August 20, 2007 12:05 PM — 65.83.54.4 — linkabuse?

Only a Florida fan would take a 5-4 record if they could then go on to beat Nevada in the Meineke Bowl over a 10-3 record with a BCS Bowl loss.

I'd like to win those bowl games against LSU & Ohio State, but I'll take the $30 million just as well. Y'all don't get it.

    IrishJT #27,

As I've said before, you don't see any of the money Notre Dame makes, so why are you so happy about it? I don't get all excited when a donor gives a huge sum of money to Florida. I do get excited when they win big games. I'm sure you've forgotten what that feels like, right? And I wasn't saying a 5-4 regular season record, I was saying a 5-4 bowl record over 9 years. I bet you wish you knew what that felt like too, right?

SEC is good...gotta give you that..but Miami...come on guy. Its like yankess and red sox....you love them or hate them..but people care. Miami...who cares...Florida's prisons must be overflowing because they all end up playing at Miami...and badly at that.
