Charlie Weis: The Saviour of Notre Dame
Where are the coach of the year votes for Charlie Weis?
In just one year, Weis more than doubled the wins for Notre Dame year-over-year, going from 3-9 in 2007 to 7-6 in 2008, including wins over Michigan, Navy and two Pac10 opponents
And Weis has done what no other Irish coach has done since Lou Holtz in 1994: win a bowl game. And this wasn't any bowl win, mind you. This victory came over a Hawaii team that was a BCS at-large team playing in the Sugar Bowl just eleven months ago.
And Weis oversaw substantional improvements on both sides of the ball. On offense, the Irish went from averaging just 75 yards per game rushing in 2007 to over 109 ypg this season, and improved to the #75 ranked offense in the country. And the defense improved in 2008, as well. The Irish gave up 330 yards per game - the best Notre Dame defense since 2003 - to finish the year as the #38 defense in the nation.
So I ask again... where are the coach of the year votes for Charlie Weis?!?
