Seventeen football players arrested at Ohio

Sounds like Solich is running a pretty tight ship over at Ohio, huh? Seventeen Ohio University football players -- roughly 14% of the entire team -- have been arrested over the past nine months, but not one player has been suspended or missed a single game this year. For comparison sake, Ohio State had four players arrested during the same period.

Solich, who was convicted of DUI last year, defended his brand of discipline despite criticism from the school newspaper.

Not one player has missed a minute of game time because of misconduct — drug abuse, alcohol offenses and assaults — that led to misdemeanor convictions in Athens Municipal Court. Ten have been convicted, four cases are pending, and three cases were dismissed after the players completed a diversion program that involves counseling and community service. Solich, in his second year at OU after six seasons coaching powerhouse Nebraska, is displeased with the number of arrests but defends his discipline system.

"We think it’s not only fair, but pretty tough," he said.

Fair? Tough? One of your TE's punches a police horse, gets arrested, and doesn't miss a game? Whatever.

    Kevin,

Hey, give the guy a break! Maybe in his drunken stuper - he misinterpreted whatever the horse was saying as to mean some kind of personal insult. It happens in bars all the time. I doubt if it was just a case of animal cruelty. Maybe the darned horse called him "Wilbur" when that wasn't even his name - and the poor guy really thought the horse was itchin' for a fight. Could have just been an honest mistake. Used to happen to me all the time.

Hey, maybe Solich needs those players to buy his booze for him. He's probably wearin' one of those ankle bracelets that are set to explode if he goes anywhere near a liquor store. Hey, maybe the party is always "at his house" now that he has been confined to "house arrest". Man, if he dismissed the whole program - there wouldn't be any more party!
