Ohio State TE getting hate mail for dropped pass

TE Ryan Hamby is receiving hate e-mails from Ohio State football fans for having dropped a sure touchdown during the Buckeyes loss to Texas last weekend.

Asked about the content of the letters, Hamby said, "I'm not going to talk about them, but they're just dumb things. You almost want to say, 'You know, in the scheme of life there are things going on around the world. It's just a game."'

You hear that, folks? Hamby is just trying to get on with things and deserves your support. In fact, I'm going to publicly suggest that all the Texas Longhorns football fans should send Ryan Scott Hamby an email - that ought to help.

Thats sad!!! It is just a game. We won 1 championship in 30 years. Lets keep this in perspective. He should have caught the pass. They should have got the safety on the kickoff return. They should have scored the other 10 times that they were inside texas 20 but they didn't. Life goes on. The sad thing is that there not even out of the championship game yet. All the teams ahead of them have to play each other including usc and notre dame. They all play in tough conferences and from what i saw of the game, even though ohio state lost, they pretty much dominated texas. Run the conference and chances are they'll be playing for a championship again.

    Pretty much dominated Texas ?

Wow, college football is all in the eye of the beholder.

The stats don't bear that out. Ohio St offense had a pathetic showing vrs Texas. OSU would not have been in the game if not for Texas turnovers.

OSU has some serious problems on offense. Their best player Ted Ginn touched the ball 3 times and they need to make a decision at QB and live with it.

Pretty much dominated texas? What game were you watching? Texas outgained OSU by almost 130 yards and the time of possession for both teams was just about equal. Ohio State's defense dominated the 2nd and 3rd quarter by forcing turnovers. The offense had one good drive (9 plays, 80 yards) but otherwise did next to nothing the entire game.

Ginn touched the ball 3 times because Michael Huff had him locked down the entire night and forced him to actually be a WR.

The contest was as close as you're probably ever going to see in a game touted with as much hype as this one was. At teams both teams looked deserving of a victory, and at times both did plenty enough to warrant a loss. Did the best team pre-vail? Or, did the key player's contributions exceed and or fall short of our expectations and ultimately decide the game? Did the best team lose? Did the worst team, but team with the best key players win? Ohio States Defense stepped up. The Texas offense struggled at times but scored enough points to win. The Texas defense didn't look as sharp as OSU's, but they didn't have to. The OSU offense was sporatic at best. Ted Ginn will be playing WR in the NFL without a doubt, Michael Huff might make a praactice squad. OSU spent too much time using Ginn as a decoy to draw attention away from whatever it was they were trying to accomplish. To say Huff had him "locked down" would be as ridiculous a description as could be given in this case. Texas wanted to take away OSU's biggest threat(Ginn), but they didn't have to, OSU didn't use him as their biggest threat. On the other side, Texas got away from what was working. The OSU linebackers were playing the quarterback the entire second half and giving little thought to the runningbacks or tightends. It seems as though Texas could have exploited the OSU defense fro selling out on the QB and won handily, but instead opted to keep the ball in the hands of their best player and barely got out of there with a win. I have no doubts that OSU will get better as the season progresses and the Big 10 doesn't appear to be as strong as a year ago(more hype than substance). The Big 12 may be just as strong but different teams are stepping up this year, as where others are falling off(Oklahoma). Texas has the inside track to the Championship game because of their ranking and their schedule doesn't pose much of a threat if they Horns are as good as Mack Brown & company want us to believe. However, as much as we are all growing tired of hearing about USC, I have yet to see a team (including Texas and OSU) that could fare any better than Oklahoma did in last years Championship game. Texas is Good and likewise, so is OSU; but Good isn't "Good Enough".

    Dear Ryan Hamby,
I agree with you totally, it is just a game. A game we won, not because we were necessarily better, but because you dropped a perfectly thrown ball. It happens! Even the greatest of receivers have dropped passes. Maybe not in a game of this magnitude. A game that will probably be the deciding factor in OSU not playing for the National Title. But none the less, the loss is not entirely your fault. Football is a team game. Although your team played hard and did enough to win you are still a part of that team. Thus being the reason you did not win. Good teams overcome times like these and I'm sure OSU will and you yourself will be able to put it behind you. The Longorns of Texas find a way every week to put the fact that their Head Coach (Mac Brown) sucks behind them and go out and play hard inspite of their coaching. We greatly appreciate your contribution to our victory and hope to meet more players like yourself in the upcoming weeks.
    Sincerely,
    Mrs. Mac Brown

if you have ever competed in sports on any level of significance you have had the chance to be a hero or goat at some point in time .
very few of us have always come through without making a mistake before making the big play .
that being said very few have had what amounts to the last chance to really shine and
end up making as big of booby error as #80 did .
just catch the damn ball !

I say its time to take Ryan Hamby and burn him at the stake! He screwed up in the Texas game and now he blew it at PSU by letting Troy Smith get his head taken off......give him the Old Yellar treatment!!!!! Ryan Hamby redefines the term 'goat' in sports. He should be ashamed to wear a Buckeye jersey and learn how to clean toilets because he'd be a much better janitor than he would playing football. He cannot catch and now he's proven he cant even block. So much for senior leadership......could be the biggest choke artist I have ever seen in collegiate sports. Please do all of us Buckeye fans a favor and try out for Michigan next year. It's where he belongs.

Scott, (and all the other Ryan Hamby haters out there)

Speak for yourself when you say, "Do all of us Buckeye fans a favor and try out for Michigan." I am a huge Buckeye fan, and you are obviously a bonehead. You, and all of the other Hamby hating idiots like you should apologize to your mothers for embarassing them and acting like such jerks against a college student who made a mistake. I am ashamed that you and I bleed the same colors, Scarlet and Gray. I assume since you are so judgemental that you have played college football, and are potentially going to go to the Pro league, so you have a great right to sit on your computer and make a truly talented football player feel worse for something that was a mistake. Do you not think that he feels bad enough? I assume that you are so perfect that you could have got out on the field and shown Hamby what is up couldn't you? I have never heard of you so that could not be true. I'll bet you could even beat him in a boxing match! I think Ryan would gladly welcome the challenge and win with a KO. I have a feeling you, yourself are a janitor, and could probably teach Ryan how to spitshine a toilet the proper way. Have you even earned a college degree? Ryan Hamby has done many things outside of football that make him an excellent human being, and should make Ohio State University be proud that he is a student, and football player for our team. However, I am sure as a true fan you already know this. Winning games is a TEAM effort, and there were many mistakes made in that game that were not the fault of Ryan Hamby. If we were winning the game in that final few minutes and Ryan dropped that pass, this would not have been such a big deal. However, the team as an entirety had a hard time putting the scores on the board, so therefore it is not the lone fault of Mr. Hamby. You and many others like yourself are the reasons that Ohio State fans have such a bad reputation as the worst fans in the nation. WHY DON'T YOU DO US ALL A FAVOR, AND GO BE A MICHIGAN FAN YOURSELF. I AM TIRED OF GOING TO HOME GAMES AND AWAY GAMES KNOWING THAT THE NATION THINKS WE ARE THE WORST FANS! I think that I speak for all of my friends, family, and fellow true fans. Either support your team and their individual mistakes, or get the hell out of OHIO! Take the good with the bad. He made a mistake, he does not deserve to have death threats! Get serious here. Not one person is perfect, and I am willing to think that includes you. Get to know more about Ryan before you burn him at the stake! God bless the Buckeyes, and you, Scott.

    Kara,
He doesn't deserve death threats, but.... he sucks. Conveniently he suffered some sort of ailment soon after that debacle. I'm guessing it had less to do with an actual injury and more to do with Tressel's wriggling out of his seniority policy. I feel for the guy, but he is going to school, eating, and having a roof over his head for free. I may not have played college football, but I know for damned sure I could catch a football thrown at the numbers. He was never a decent player and more or less an intermission between the truly talented, and deserving of a portion of my tuition payment, Mr. Ben Hartsock and Mr. Marcell Frost. Is it Kara Hamby by chance? And the whole boxing thing, he may be a big dude, but he has clearly proven he is no athlete. Give me a time and a date. I'll punk that loser.
