Fiesta Bowl: OSU in white, Irish in blue
Apparently the Cleveland Plain Dealer has someone who specializes in sports fashion, as they dropped this little note into the sports page about the upcoming Ohio State - Notre Dame game in the Fiesta Bowl:
The Buckeyes will wear road white jerseys for their Jan. 2 Fiesta Bowl game against Notre Dame. ND should wear its traditional blue jerseys.
I can't yet confirm the note on the blue for UND, but the Fiesta Bowl confirms that the Irish will wear their "home" jerseys.
No word yet on what color Laura Quinn, older sister of Notre Dame starting QB Brady Quinn, will wear. Ms. Quinn is dating linebacker A.J. Hawk of Ohio State.

Who cares the question should be which Quinn A.J. has on there back the most on 2 Jan 06 !!!! Just kidding........This is just another stupid story, that matters little in the college football world, but it gives a little added edge to the ballgame. Not sure if Brady and AJ will be exchanging christmas gives or not this year. AJ will give Brady a Buckeye, but on Brady will be giving A.J. a black-eye soon enough. Maybe ND can play Virginia in a bowl game next year so the other Quinn get involved in all the drama, Kelly plays soccer for the Whoo's.

I pray CW has burned those green jerseys. Green is not one of the colors of ND.----Besides if ND needs green to pump themselves up they must not be a very good football team.
If I were an opposing player I'd think needing the green would be a sign of weakness.---Burn The Green!!! Play like men.

Azher - Thanks for reinforcing the link I referenced above. That said, you're not 100% accurate. The Fiesta Bowl site (that I linked to) says that ND will wear "home" jerseys - it says nothing about color.

I like the Irish wearing green jerseys every once in a while just to spice things up. Not all the time, maybe once a year or so; it comes from a great story from Notre Dame history in the 1977 game vs. Southern California. What's so bad about them?

REGAN HI---Green Jerseys go back to Leahy, I do not remember before his years.
At any rate they have lost all their inspirational value and inspire the opposing team more than ND. Green Jerseys have become passe, stale and lost all their usefullness.
ND means OUR LADY and Blue and Gold have been depicted for centuries as Her colors. ND in following this tradition picked B&G as the official colors of the school. Let us keep the colors of Our Lady.
ND is not MSU, Tulane etc whose school colors are green.

That's sweet.... Knowing this information I'm going to bet on OSU to win this game. Talk about the all-time easiest way to mess with the opposing Quarterbacks head. If Hawk has any cajones and he really wants to win this game he'll use this to the fullest. Can you imagine the possibilities? I mean, its great. He can say "your sister wanted me to "come over" last night again, but I had to blow her off cuz I was to busy humpin your mom." Or how about "I'm gonna make you squeal like your sister did last night in bed". The possibilities are endless!

Eric! How could it have taken 10 posts to get to such an obvious question?! After the ND-OSU matchup was announced my brother and I debated whether or not Ohio State would in fact managed to wear the Scarlet & Grey, we had a feeling it might be one of those nit-picky things ND would demand (and ultimately receive). I made a brief attempt to find a rule from the BCS where it states that the more highly ranked in the BCS Poll should be the home team, and I've found absolutely nothing. It's ridiculous, I didn't believe something as obvious as #6 vs #4 could be ignored...

How about the thoughts on Notre Dame coming out in a black jersey. If you have looked on ebay recently, not only has Adidas been selling the green jerseys with gold numbers they wore against USC, but these new black jerseys with gold numbers. Why would adidas sell a jersey Notre Dame has never worn before? Thats just a little interesting/fishy to me. It would be pretty nuts if they came out in these black jerseys.

Kurt, notre dame 444 may be speculating liberally about a coin toss to decide who gets to wear the home jerseys, but surely blaming it on Notre Dame's bad manners is just a wee bit inventive, too? A "nit-picky [thing] ND would demand (and ultimately receive)"??? Isn't it remotely possible that each bowl has a set plan for how to decide who gets the home jerseys? I don't know what it is, but as long as we're pulling theories out of thin air, that one seems somewhat rational.
I suspect (without evidence to back it up) that the reason ND is the home team is that the Fiesta Bowl's home team of record is the Big 12 champion. Because its home team was stolen by the championship game, the Fiesta Bowl got an extra, first pick for available teams. Since Notre Dame was selected with that pick, it's natural to suppose that it automatically assumed the role of titular home team. I'm just guessing.

It's my understanding Ohio State had first choice on which jersey color to wear. They picked white, presumably because they wore white in the last two Fiesta Bowls (both victories, including 1 NC).
OSU's choice left ND with the "home" jersey.
