First upset of the season
Well, that didn't take long.
The early games of the first Saturday of the 2005 college football season have produced the first huge upset of the year. The TCU Horned Frogs went into Norman and defeated the Oklahoma Sooners 17-10. TCU was unranked while the Sooners were ranked as high as seventh in the land.
With the loss, the Sooners are now 0-2 in their last two games with losses to USC and TCU.
The loss was Bob Stoops' first loss in September as head coach of the Sooners.

TCU should get a lot of credit for this win. Patterson had the Frogs ready and made OU play his game. Look out Mountain West - here come the Frogs!

UNBELIEVABLE- but really I think the
Sooners have been vastly overated for the past 3 seasons-remember LSU and USC? I wish I couldn't. This team is seriously bad,as in stinking. I know Texas is going to take massive revenge this season, probably by at least 50 points. Colorado will also handle them easily as will as Nebraska, Oklahoma State and K-State. I'm a Sooner fan all the way, but you have to look at reality. Without a passing game ALL the teams are going to stop Peterson just as easily as did TCU. I really wasn't aware that we had no QB.Donny Pierce said:

I am a huge OU fan. They got their tail beat upfront on both sides of the ball. The offensive and defensive line played like crap. Yes they lost 10 great players to the NFL, but come on. This is Oklahoma. This is the first time other than the USC game, that I have seen a Stoops coached team give up. There was no heart, no fire. It was also the quietest crowd I have heard since Stoops saved the program.

Thompson had no touch on the ball and although he has 4.4 speed, he doesn't show it on the field. Stoops should try Bomar at Tulsa. If it doesn't work out, he can always go back to Thompson. But, Thompson really appears limited in the passing game. OU's defense was solid most of the game and especially in the second half. Why he stayed with Petersen after the injury, well, your guess is as good as mine. Obviously, they need to put in a more complex offensive scheme, mix it up, give Bomar a chance, and see what happens.

TCU is good...Tye Gunn is Great (11-2 as a starter!). The Mountain West Conference is in big trouble this year, and this is coming from a Baylor Alum. OU will be back in a couple of years, just not this one. This year goes to U.T.

No ... not so obvious.
If you play a freshmen, you have to make it less complex.
You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Exactly my point, Gene. Not sure Sooner fans get that, which is understandable given the success they've had in the last six years. I feel a little better that you're in that trench with me.

Stoops kept it simple vrs TCU, then the fans lambast him for being vanilla. He just can't put too much on those young QB's.
He needs to get his run game going with Peterson but I think they have some talent issues in the oline.
He doesn't need a lot from Bomar, just complete a few passes to keep the defense backed off. Thompson couldn't do that, too inaccurate. The WR's were open ( wide open on many occasions ) , he just missed them badly.
If Bomar had gotten Thompson's snaps, they'd be a lot further along and probably not have a loss.
Did you see Miami's Kyle Wright mature as the game went on last night ? Bomar could've done the same.
