NCAA rules on Bomar, Quinn penalties
Former Oklahoma football players Rhett Bomar and J.D. Quinn must sit out one season, pay back thousands of over payments from their "jobs", and lose one season of eligibility.
"The NCAA reinstatement staff has assessed the facts presented by Oklahoma and agrees with its contention that both Mr. Bomar and Mr. Quinn willfully violated NCAA rules regarding preferential treatment and benefits," Jennifer Strawley, the NCAA's director of membership services and student-athlete reinstatement, said in a news release. "The NCAA strives to ensure equitable treatment and fair competition for student-athletes, and the fact that the student-athletes knowingly were paid thousands of dollars for work they did not perform was a significant factor when determining the sanctions. Further, the high level of culpability and responsibility exhibited by both student-athletes warrants a significant sanction that reflects the seriousness of the violations."
Bomar must pay back $7,406.88 to a charity of his choosing and will only have two years of eligibility remaining at I-AA Sam Houston State. Quinn, who's at Montana, will have two remaining seasons of eligibility if he meets the same requirements, including a charitable contribution of $8,137.17.

"In other news, the NCAA punished Tulsa by taking away 12 scholarships and banning them from TV for the next 3 years". Miles Brand is qouted a saying, "That should teach OU to watch over their program a little closer". No news yet on how bad they are going to punnish OSU.
Man, I bet A&M and SMU are pissed for the lack of team punishment.

The Dallas Morning News is suing OU because the documents they provided had TONS of blacked out information.

Hopefully they don't escape with just this slap on the wrist and the University gets into some trouble.

All coaches are afraid of players who willfully break the rules. All coaches warn the players and try to make sure they obey. But, when players like Bomar and Quinn knowingly cheat and try to hide it, I do not think the university should be penalized when it is the one who discovered the cheating and then kicked them off the team. I think the penalty on the students should have been greater

I have this question what "is a charity of ones choosing" mean. The girls that work at the Yellow Rose or Sugars nightclub? They seem like a charity that these boys would probably choose.Lets see a dollar at a time with a few table dances and that 74 hundred could take a while to donate.
