Pokies WR could be out for year for lying to NCAA

A weird twist of events coming out of Stillwater.....

In a release issued by the Oklahoma State athletic department, wide receiver Dez Bryant has been ruled ineligible by the school for violating NCAA bylaws by making "false or misleading statements" to the NCAA.

The issue centers around misleading statements the junior gave the NCAA regarding his workouts with legendary cornerback Deion Sanders. While the workouts are not the focus of the investigation, Bryant's misleading statements to an NCAA official regarding the workouts have landed the star receiver in hot water.

"I made a mistake by not being entirely truthful when meeting with the NCAA," Bryant said. "I sincerely regret my mistake and apologize to my teammates, coaches, OSU fans and the NCAA."

"We are certainly disappointed, but we are moving forward as we would with any challenge during the season," said Cowboy head coach Mike Gundy.

The Cowboys have applied for reinstatement for Bryant, but it's unclear how long any NCAA penalty for Bryant may be. Because the issue at hand is intentional deceit, Bryant could face a stiffer penalty, such as missing the rest of the season, which would be a huge blow to Oklahoma State's offense.

Bryant is averaging 19.0 yards per catch so far this season, with 4 TDs. Houston Cougar fans will remember Bryant as the kid that lit them up for over 230 yards receiving and three touchdowns. In 2008, he had nearly 1500 yards receiving (17.0 ypc) and 19 touchdowns.

I'll try to get more on this as it comes out.
