A BCS Nightmare
With all the BCS scenarios out their this one is truly frightening.Suppose:
1) Oregon State wins their remaining games
2) USC Losses a game
3) TCU defeats Utah
4) Boise State goes undefeated
Then Oregon State wins the PAC 10.
A reasonable excerpt from the final BCS standings would be:
#7) Bosie State
#8) TCU
#10) Ohio State
#11) USC
#13) Utah
#14) Tulsa/Ball State
#20) Oregon State
The SEC champion and #2, Big 12 champion and #2, Penn State, ACC Champion and Oregon State would fill the NC game, Rose Bowl and the three host slots for the other three BCS bowls.
Boise State, the Big East champion and one of: TCU, Ohio State, USC, Utah and Tulsa/Ball State would fill the remaining spots.
The Fiesta Bowl gets first pick, and would take USC, unless their successful history with Boise State and urgings, possible under a very large table, from the Sugar Bowl talk them into taking Boise State. If Penn State is in the title game Ohio State can't be ruled out of the Rose Bowl. The Sugar Bowl would take either USC or Boise State over the Big East champion, unless it is West Virginia. This leaves the Big East champion to be relegated to the Orange Bowl.
The MWC gets nothing. Nada. Zip.
Disregard the fact that they could have 2 teams over three of the 6 BCS conference champions and BCS eligible. With Oregon State not currently receiving any votes in either poll they could end up below BYU. This could give the MWC 3 teams over a PAC 10 champion garnering an automatic berth, a team that lost to a MWC team that placed in the top 14 and in a conference the MWC was 6-1 against head to head yet still placed 2 teams in BCS bowls ( unless Ohio State goes to the Rose Bowl).
Top 10 TCU with one loss to top 10 Oklahoma
Top 15 Utah with one loss to top 10 TCU
Top 25 BYU with two losses to top 10 TCU and top 15 Utah
would get nothing.
This could be the biggest BCS screw up since 2004.
Happy Halloween. Go USC! Buy a tee shirt.
