Pac10 Coaching Salaries
Tucked in the sidebar of an AZCentral story, the salaries for all the Pac10 head coaches:
MIKE BELLOTTI
School: Oregon.
Length: Through 2010 season.
Guaranteed salary: $600,000.
Details: Reportedly earns $1 million per year with incentives, including a percentage of ticket sales. Oregon adds a year to his contract after each season.
PETE CARROLL
School: USC.
Length: Through 2010 season.
Guaranteed salary: Estimated $2 million-3 million.
Details: USC is a private school not required to publicly release contracts.
BILL DOBA
School: Washington State.
Length: Through 2009 season.
Guaranteed salary: $500,000.
Details: Can earn $335,000 via incentives.
KARL DORRELL
School: UCLA.
Length: Through 2010 season.
Guaranteed salary: Reportedly between $600,000 and $800,000.
Details: Can make more than $1 million annually via incentives.
WALT HARRIS
School: Stanford.
Length: Through 2009 season.
Guaranteed salary: Estimated to be at least $600,000.
Details: Stanford is a private school and not required to publicly release contracts.
DIRK KOETTER
School: Arizona State.
Length: Through 2009 season.
Guaranteed salary: $950,000.
Details: Up to $1,050,000 in incentives for athletic and academic performance. $500,000 buyout for leaving early through Jan. 7, 2007, to be reduced by $100,000 each Jan. 7 thereafter.
MIKE RILEY
School: Oregon State.
Length: Through 2009 season.
Guaranteed salary: $800,000 for 2006, with $50,000 raise in each subsequent year.
Details: Buyout for leaving early of $1 million through 2007, reduced to $750,000 in 2008 and $500,000 in 2009.
MIKE STOOPS
School: Arizona.
Length: Through 2008 season.
Guaranteed salary: $800,000.
Details: Can make up to $630,000 via incentives. Buyout for leaving early of $50,000.
JEFF TEDFORD
School: California.
Length: Through 2009 season.
Guaranteed salary: $1.5 million.
Details: Can make up to $300,000 via incentives. Eligible for $2.5 million retention bonus for staying through contract duration. Includes escape clause if facility upgrades are not completed.
TYRONE WILLINGHAM
School: Washington.
Length: Through 2009 season.
Guaranteed salary: $1.43 million.
Details: Can make up to $600,000 via incentives.

I know this is not a fanblogs original, but it's worth saying. Even though the Freedom of Information Act does not require the release of records for private entities, nonprofit entities still have to make certain public disclosures, including their highest paid employees. These disclosures can be found at guidestar.org, but you need to log in to view.

I'd have to take some of that cash from Tedford and Willingham and give it to Stoops, Harris, Dorrell and Bellotti. I'd give Pete Carroll even another raise. What does the NFL pay for making it impossible to win thru salary caps? At least in college ball you only have to lose 20-25% of your players each year. There is some sort of chance that you could build a real program. No chance really in the NFL. So, I'd offer him enough to make so that he would never consider trying to win in that circus.

Ty Willingham overpaid? What do you mean? Ty Willingham is a former PAC - 10 champion coach! Albeit with an 8 - 4 record with a loss to San Jose State, but still, doesn't being a PAC - 10 champion count for anything? Now, of course, Wisconsin also lost to Cincinnati in a year that they won the Big 10. But Wisconsin finished 10 - 2, not 8 - 4, and the year that they lost to Cincinnati THEY STILL BEAT THE PAC - 10 CHAMPION IN THE ROSE BOWL!
And yes, did not Ty Willingham generally own the Men of Troy while at Stanford, even beating Pete Carroll during Carroll's first season? It looks to me like Ty Willingham represents the best that the non - USC (or more to the point make that the non - Pete Carroll) PAC - 10 has to offer, so he deserves as much money as any other PAC - 10 coach outside of Carroll. Oh yeah, hey, didn't Rick Neuheisel also win the PAC - 10 AND the Rose Bowl over MIGHTY PURDUE, a program stocked with great athletes and steeped in tradition? The same guy that ran Colorado into the ground and was barely .500 in 3 out of his 4 years at UW, with no running game, defense, or special teams? Yep ... Neuheisel and Willingham ... the best the non - Pete Carroll PAC - 10 have to offer.

Ty Willingham won the same amount of games that the present head coach won in his first year at Notre Dame. However he got a raise and a 20 year ext. What did coach Willingham get? Nothing. Is that hidden racism Notre Dame fan 444 or what?

Some people compare Notre Dame’s treatment of Ty Willingham to Notre Dame’s treatment of Charlie Weis and then make claims that Notre Dame is racist. Those people need to compare how Notre Dame performed against USC that first year for both coaches and rethink their conclusion. If anybody wants to make claims of racism at Notre Dame they need to look at how Ty Willingham treated Carlysle Holiday when he was the quarterback and was replaced by Brady Quinn. Willingham gets a pass for hanging a 19 year old kid out to dry with the fans while Notre Dame is criticized for giving Coach Willingham exactly what he deserved based on job performance and accepted performance standards.
