Doc bars Paterno from sidelines

Injured Penn State head coach Joe Paterno remains in the hospital after surgery earlier this week. A team physician says Paterno cannot coach from the sidelines for this weekend's game with Temple, but that the 79-year old coach may be able to coach from the press box. Paterno is expected to be able to put weight on the leg in 6-8 weeks and a decision about his release from the hospital is "day-to-day."

UPDATE: Paterno will not be in the stadium at all for the Temple game. A decision about the last regular season game with Michigan State will be made next week.

Paterno may be the toughest coach around. If he could, he would be on the sidelines against Temple. Pain or no pain.

Sounds like a great reason to begin the retirement process.

    Get well soon Papa Joe.

Can the doctor actually force this guy to do a damn thing? Didn't he just "strongly recommend?" I think Paterno can do whatever the hell he wants, even if it isn't a good idea.

We won't see the last of Joe until we see the last of Bobby...

Joe is pissed the NCAA includes Bobby's chincy Samford W/L record in the total games won category...

These guys will be coaching until the other feels safe to keep that record...

Poor old man, the only time hes missed 2 games in the past 1000 years was the death of his Mom or Dad I cant remember and an accident with his son. Get well soon.

Get well soon coach Paterno. The man lives and breathes football and is one of the most respected individuals in all of college football.
He took one hell of a hit, and its alot tougher to recover at his age.Hopefully he can still advise his assistants with the new tecnology from a remote location. Hookem-Horns

It's all a conspiracy. Bowden and Paterno are in a race to see who dies first so the other can go ahead and retire with the record. They are trying to take out Paterno so FSU can get on with their life post-Bowden.

    Cane_Nation (#8):

My sources in the S.S.E.S. (Souther Syndicate of Evil Sportswriters) have indeed confirmed this conspiracy you have uprooted...

However their plan seems to carry on further...

My insider reports that the S.S.E.S. has developed a life extending "Laser" that will be repeatedly used on both Bowden and Paterno to keep them coaching for another twenty years...

The hope is that this will effect Notre Dame recruiting patterns and once again foil any Irish attempt at any MNC aspirations or extension to the program's glorious past...

Of course, while hatching this plan, the S.S.E.S. dined on cheeseburgers...
