Paterno Hospitalized for Dehydration

From the Centre Daily Times, Penn State head coach Joe Paterno has been hospitalized for dehydration.

Joe Paterno was taken by ambulance to Mount Nittany Medical Center this morning where he is being treated for apparent dehydration, said Guido D'Elia, spokesman for Penn State Football

D'Elia said the 81-year-old Penn State football coach was taken to the hospital after complaining of nausea, weakness and fatigue. Tests are being performed to rule out heart and other problems, D'Elia said.

"They're just treating him for dehydration," D'Elia said.

ESPN has a curious detail in their report, saying that the hospital was going to conduct a stress test prior to releasing JoPa. I mention that only because -- in my recent experience -- a stress test is generally performed if the doctors are actual suspect of the patient's cardio health.

Let's hope this is only another bout of the ol' G.I. infection and that Paterno is released very soon.

Update: Paterno was released from the hospital last night and is expected to resume his full schedule immediately.

Now I know why no one has asked Joe to retire, there's a guy named "Guido" taking care of him......wonder if anyone has kissed Joe's hand lately...

Ron, you were expecting something different, maybe? Personnally, I think it's shaking that terrible finger of his that's finally caught up to him...

Dehydration's a cover story for sure. There *is* a grain of truth to it because it's part of the treatment, but the REAL reason is that MNMC learned that he needs a precertification before JoPa's HMO will cover mummification.

    THIS IS THE REAL STORY:

He [Paterno] flew to Austin on Friday to attend a dinner at the University of Texas to support an endowed chair in global affairs named after Longhorns coach Mack Brown.

"Yesterday I didn't think this event was getting enough press. I decided to go to the hospital and see if I could spruce it up a bit," Paterno said. "I feel good."

    THIS IS THE REAL JOKE:

An endowed chair in global affairs named after Mack Brown? Next thing you know, George Bush will want to do it too.
