Ferentz visits Penn State

Iowa Hawkeyes coach Kirk Ferentz, once a Penn State fan favorite to succeed legendary coach Joe Paterno, paid a visit to Happy Valley this week. According to Scout.com, he was spotted touring the football facilities with PSU AD Tim Curley.

So, what gives? Is Ferentz a secret candidate to replace JoPa?

According to sources close to the Penn State program, Ferentz and Iowa athletic director Gary Barta are visiting Happy Valley to get a close look at the Penn State football facilities, particularly Holuba Hall and Lasch Building.

The Hawkeyes intend to upgrade their indoor practice facility in the near future, and apparently liked what they saw when given an opportunity to practice in Holuba Hall before the PSU-Iowa game last fall. Currently, Iowa uses a 23-year-old bubble style indoor practice facility.

They are also upgrading the Jacobson Athletic Complex, where the Iowa football offices, locker room and weight-training facilities are housed.

I totally believe that Iowa wants to build facilities in the PSU mold -- most schools would, for what it's worth -- but I think it is just a little curious that Ferentz finds a way to tour the Penn State facilities every couple years.
