Purdue names Danny Hope as coach-in-waiting
Following a new trend that began with the introduction of Jimbo Fisher at Florida State, the Boilermakers have introduced Eastern Kentucky head coach Danny Hope as the next head coach at Purdue.
Hope re-joins the Purdue staff as the associate head coach and will replace Joe Tiller following the 2008-2009 season. In the interim, Hope will coach the Purdue O-line and current O-line coach Bill Legg will coach a different position.
Hope will be signed to a six-year contract, with the final five as head coach, the university said. Athletic director Morgan Burke said Hope would make between $470,000 and $550,000 his first year, then a minimum of $825,000 the next year with incentives that could take him over $1 million.
...
The move resembles the way the university replaced longtime men’s basketball coach Gene Keady with Matt Painter after the 2004-05 season.
Hope is seen as a fiery coach and a great recruiter, particularly in his home state of Florida. He began his coaching career as a high-school assistant in Florida and has kept those ties. EKU had 21 players from Florida high schools in 2007.
Hope was 35-22 in five seasons as head coach of the Colonels. Hope was OL coach on Tiller's staffs at Wyoming, then Purdue, before leaving the Boilermakers after the 2001 season. He was named FCS Regional Coach of the year in 2007, after a 9-3 season at EKU.

"Successor" sounds a bit too imminent. Someone "on deck" isn't getting up until the guy ahead of him is finished with his bat.
"Interim" still means that he's the head coach right now.
Kevin started this with Jimbo Fisher. Since he knows Fisher better than I, perhaps Lady in waiting is more appropriate? Nah....
Just for Gatorhippy, my alternate terms for a coach in waiting:
Best Coach
Lieutenant Coach
Coach Congeniality
Coach Runner-Up
Vice Coach
Wallflower Coach
(Waiting to be)Stage(ed) Coach
Coach Inheritance
Coach Imminent
Coach Apprentice
Coach to be Named Later (similar to player t.b.n.l.)
Okay, that's all I got...

Kevin, since I'm one of the youngest guys on here, you could make me Fanblogs commissioner-in-waiting, you know, for once you go to the college football stadium in the sky, or football heaven, whatever you prefer.
P.S. There is no BCS in football heaven. They have a clear champion.

Beav (I do think that's a cool new nickname for you...Now if we can just work on Meat Curtains for Lace Curtains, we'll be set),
That was tongue in cheek, but I never realized you were 16...and you probably never realized that I grew up in one of the most backwards, red-neck-esque Parishes the state of Louisiana can boast...

Just a thought...
