Coach's home approved after Rutgers muscles town

Rutgers is not only getting some love on the field, but apparently the Scarlet Knights are becoming quite a force off the field, too.

Despite protests of the local residents, the town of Piscataway has approved a zoning change request that was strong-armed by Rutgers. With the change, RU football coach Greg Schiano will now be able to build his home on a large wooded lot that was re-zoned for a single residence.

Muscling and strong-arm tactics in New Jersey? That's a shock.

Happy for the Scarlet Knights and their recent success.I understand they expanded their stadium as well. Does the coach have to take the wheels off?

They haven't expanded the stadium yet. They recently released the results of a marketing survey that found that it would make sense to add a variety of premium seating including luxury boxes. They haven't started anything yet, but will probably start construction in the next 2 years or so.

They have been expanding in other areas. A major expansion of team facilities at the Hale Center was completed 2 years ago. The grass field (and practice fields) were converted to Fieldturf and a video replay scoreboard was added.

Man does not live by bread alone. Coach needed land for a house; the land he needed was found. End of story. Better things are in store for the up-and-coming Scarlet Knights. As a result, better things will be in store for those who've been, ahem...strong armed. (I agree with Mr. Quinton. What a shock!)

It's great that we are finally winning some games after all these years, however, most of these teams we are beating suck. Most of them are having the worst games in memory. That includes Illinois, whose football program is a number one "has been", and even the once great Syracuse team.

I don't want to rain on the parade, but after ten years of pure misery, I'd like to see a greater level of achievement plus a sustained winning record before crowing too loud.

I also hope, no not hope, it's more like beg Coach Schiano not to make the mistake of treading on Louieville's logo like they did last year. That was a terrible way of welcoming a newcommer to the Big East. That's especially true after they beat the crap out of us.

When I saw that on national television, I was embarrassed to be an RU graduate, especially being a native Jersey boy, living and working amongst all of these Boston College co-workers here in Beantown.

Coach Schiano, when you make boneheaded moves like that, it makes the rest of us look like a classless breed of arrogant imbeciles.

By the way, I was raised in Piscataway and attended PHS. I'd like to welcome you to our town. Please don't be angry with me if I decide to tread on your front lawn.

Louisville and Syracuse are sold out. Just so you know. Yeah it was hard to sell out when they were 1-11, but thats obvious. As they continue to get better they will have more sell-outs. Jersey is a big state with a lot of pride. There will be plenty of people that want to see RU do well.
