Music City Bowl Interested in several SEC Teams

The Music City Bowl, played each year in the Coliseum in Nashville, TN has put several SEC teams on their wish-list for this year's game. Two are local SEC teams, Tennessee and Vanderbilt. Also in the hunt is South Carolina, who became bowl eligible this past weekend, defeating the Arkansas Razorbacks.

The Vols and Commodores are not yet bowl eligible. Vanderbilt needs two more wins and has two more games left. The Vols have three games left and must win all three.

One of these two teams will not be bowl-bound since they play each other November 19 at Neyland Stadium.

After high expectations early in the season, Tennessee has struggled and underachieved to a 3-5 record and is in danger for not going to a bowl game for the first time in over a decade. Vandy started well with a 4-0 record before losing the next five games in a row, including a heart breaker Saturday night in overtime to Florida.

One drawback to having Tennessee or Vanderbilt play in the Music City Bowl is the anticipated drop in tourism dollars each team would bring. Nashville is home to the Commodores and only a three-hour drive from Knoxville. According to Music City Bowl officials, there is strong interest fro the Peach Bowl in South Carolina. The Peach Bowl gets first pick in the whole bowl picking hierarchy.

As a student coaching assist for WVU I went to the Music City Bowl in 2000. Nashville is an awesome city with lots of cool bars. Probably not a great idea for Coach Spurrier to turn in team lose in that city!! haha

    Volpimp,
A team from out of state would possibly fill more hotel rooms. If you get a team from driving distance for any bowl game it means you better have an opponent that can not only sell tickets but hotel rooms.

Is this where we pull out the old quote that you can't spell Music City without UT?

If the Tigers win out, they may get a chance to try to avenge their inevitable loss to Clemson :-)

For war eagle2004, had it not been for some bad calls in the SEC championship game, Tenn would have won. Your lucky you got out with that one. But I agree, you should have played for the national title. And I think that Auburn would have beat USC. But thats just my opinion. But trashing Fulmer for not voting you number one is stupid. Maybe he thought that since Tenn almost beat you in the SEC that you weren't the best team in the country.
