Annual UF-UGA game may kill you

For the third year in a row, a fan died during the Florida - Georgia game in Jacksonville near Alltell Stadium.

Police are saying that Randall Amos, fell down a flight of stairs during televised coverage of Saturday's game at the Tailgate Bar and Grill near the stadium. His death is being ruled an accident. Last year, a Florida student was killed in a fight. The year before, a student died after falling from a parking garage.

Police say that the crowd was less rowdy than in past years, with just 54 people ejected from the game and only 31 arrests (eight during the actual game) in The Landings, a bar area near Alltel Stadium.

This just in: University Presidents Bernie Machen and Michael Adams issued in a joint press conference that next year's game shall be known as the World's Largest Non-Lethal, Non-Alcoholic, Outdoor Cocktail Party. Said Adams, "If I can fire Vince Dooly with impunity, certainly I can save lives by rearranging the title of this annual event again."

I think both schools should forfeit the rest of their games and go on suspension. Thugs.

I don't understand why everyone is blaming the football teams (S.C.U.M) or the schools (WVUFB97). Its the fans fault! And what do you think is going to happen when 150,000 people over run a city and drink for two days straight. Look you can't stop it...fights, couch burning, bottel throwing, riots, drunken accidents. This stuff has always happened and will always happen as long as there is fans and alcohol.

I'm sorry, I don't think I read anywhere that the players, coaches, or school staff died! As a matter of fact I think it said it was a fan. Don't blame the schools, it happens everywhere not just in Florida, and by the way UGA is in Athens, Georgia!

dont blame the schools for what happened off the field, I live in Jax, and it is kinda infested with a lot of criminal element. that being said the guy died falling down stairs leaving a bar. nobody is to blame but the drunk. (a little bit of conspiracy theory for you, he was an assistant tax collecter for the city... think someone might have gotten a little revenge?)

OK, either I'm very naive, or most of the posts blaiming the team, coaches, admin, etc. were sarcastic.

mf doom - same thing goes for WVUFB97, particularly about the fans (though I was going to comment about people in glass houses).

GA. wants to be FL. Fans, Players, whatever. My point is its very difficult for these games that r conducted in the spotlight every year and not something happen. Students, Fans, Players, Coaches its time to get a grip on reality. You dont have to be a drunken "idiot" and jump off of a parking deck to enjoy a college football game.

S.C.U.M., you really think Florida and Georgia should forfeit the rest of their games because one person got drunk and fell down a flight of stairs at a BAR near the stadium?

Okey dokey. For the most part, Florida and Georgia fans get along okay. Both of us have classy coaches and programs. The thugs are in Tallahassee and Miami.

Im saying these drunken beiligerant people are the idiots. I attend every UF football game away and home. I get a nice buzz at my tailgate, enjoy friends and company, then go to the game. I labeled these people idiots because every game I attend, people drink till they vomit, yell and scream at people throw projectiles(throw rocks at fans ahmmm knoxville) , etc. These folks are the idiots, the ones that cant control their behavior and use alcohol as a scapegoat.

The high school student who sat behind us at the GA-FLA game must not have heard "Adams and Machen's" no drinking plan. We had to ask him to leave before kickoff as he had just puked behind us, he spent the entire game, except for two plays when he was yelling obsenities, with his head between his legs-where they belonged. Must have been a great experience for him attending a game with such great fanfare, not to have witnessed one play. Back to high school buddy.

    I don't think its either University's fault.

Unfortunately, I think that when college kids go on a trip (rather than a home game) such as spring break, they tend to to push the limits. When you put two groups of traveling college kids in the same town, same basic area, bad things are going to happen.

I hate to end a long tradition in Jacksonville, but that might be necessary to end the excessiveness.

    A few points:

    A) The guy was a resident of Jacksonville.

    B) He was at a bar, obviously with no ticket or intention of attending the game.

    C) He fell down the stairs at said bar because he was so drunk. I think the real culprit here is the Bar at which he was drinking. Shouldn't the management recognized his level of intoxication and STOPPED SERVING THE MAN!!!

To lump this in with the actual attendance of the game is media hype...

Looking at theses three points, the logical conclusion here should be:

    A) Since he was resident, he can't be a martyr for the "Cocktail Party" abolishment. He more than likely frequented the very place he was drinking at.

    B) Again he was at a bar with no ticket or intention of attending the game. Again, not a martyr.

    C) He was so drunk he fell down stairs

People make a big deal out of this. People die in jacksonville every weekend, it just so happens when the game comes to town everyone in jacksonville is in the area and like usual someone dies. It's no big news. Game or not that guy would be drunk at that bar and fall down the stairs.
