How the SEC East will be won

The State has the breakdown of each teams chances to clinch the SEC East division and the remaining path to the SEC Championship game.

For whatever reason (perhaps... common sense?!) they felt obliged to leave Vandy out of the SEC title hunt race, even though the Commodores have not been mathematically eliminated. I guess some concepts (ie Vandy in the SEC title game) are just too much to wrap your head around.

THE PATH TO ATLANTA

How the division’s top five teams can win the East outright or through the use of the first tiebreaker (head-to-head results) in a two-way tie:

TENNESSEE: win its remaining SEC games

GEORGIA: win its remaining SEC games and have Tennessee lose once

USC: win its remaining games, have Tennessee lose twice and Georgia lose once

FLORIDA: win its remaining games, have Georgia lose twice and Tennessee lose once

KENTUCKY: win its remaining games, have both Georgia and Tennessee lose at least twice and have USC and Florida lose at least once

In the event of a three-way tie at 5-3:

Involving Tennessee, Georgia and USC, Tennessee would advance.

Involving Tennessee, Georgia and Florida, Florida would advance.

Involving Tennessee, Georgia and Kentucky, Kentucky would advance.

Involving Georgia, USC and Kentucky, USC would advance

In the event of a four-way tie at 5-3:

Involving Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and USC at 5-3, USC would advance to the SEC title game on the basis of its 3-1 head-to-head record against the tied teams.

Involving Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida at 5-3, Florida would advance

Remaining games

TENNESSEE

Nov. 3 Louisiana-Lafayette, 4 p.m.

Nov. 10 Arkansas, TBA

Nov. 17 Vanderbilt, TBA

Nov. 24 at Kentucky, TBA

GEORGIA

Nov. 3 Troy, 1 p.m.

Nov. 10 Auburn, TBA

Nov. 17 Kentucky, TBA

Nov. 24 at Georgia Tech, TBA

USC

Nov. 3 at Arkansas, 8 p.m.

Nov. 10 Florida, TBA

Nov. 24 Clemson, TBA

FLORIDA

Nov. 3 Vanderbilt, 12:30 p.m.

Nov. 10 at South Carolina, TBA

Nov. 17 Florida Atlantic, TBA

Nov. 24 Florida St., 5 p.m.

Of the SEC East teams still in the mix, Tennessee (what?!?!) is the only team that controls its own destiny. That statement along should echo just what a crazy season it has been in the SEC. After the Vols, UGA has a direct path to the SEC Championship if the Bulldogs can win out and watch UT lose one game.

Beyond Tennessee and Georgia, I start to get tired head and have to take a nap.

Actually, GA only has to lose once as long as TN doesnt drop more than one of its next three. Comon War Eagle/Wildcats. If UF does go to the SEC game, we need to dance in the endzone!

I think CBS has already announced that they will pick up the Auburn/Georgia game at 3:30 EST Nov 10th. Ahhhh. Athens, GA on a crisp fall afternoon. Can't say it gets much better for us playing on our home field over there...

I'm not the only person that thinks South Carolina has a chance am I? I am guessing that we will win the rest of our SEC games. This is on the basis that we play like we did in the 2nd half of the Tennessee game. I really do think we have a chance to beat the Gators. I also think that Georgia will lose to Kentucky, and that Tennessee will lose to Kentucky and Arkansas. Maybe even Vanderbilt.

That is a lot to hope for, but I think it is possible.

I really wish that UF was playing Newton this weekend rather than pushing Tebow into what could be an even worse situation for next weekend against SC.

Lets hope TN doesnt lose all 3 but you never know what Fat Phil has planned.

That's my opinion and if there is a disargeement then that's what it will be. I am not trying to start an argument! Just like I think it will be Oklahoma playing Missouri in the Big 12 Championship with Oklahoma winning again, this time BIG!

They'll be adding in Vanderbilt to that list soon enough. They just keep getting better and better every year it seems.

I like the fact that with all the three way tie possibilities, UGA can't advance with any of them.

and Jonsey, you need to stop smoking crack because its killing your brain cells.

    Vandy's Chances:

Vanderbilt has Florida, Kentucky and Tennessee left to play. Vandy winning these three games is almost unthinkable, but if they do, these would be the results:

If Vanderbilt wins the rest of thier games, and Georgia losses 2, Vandy will be in the championship game.

Vandy would win any three way 5-3 tie except one with Georgia and Florida. All four way ties at 5-3 would go to Vandy.

It is possible that no team in the SEC East finished better than 4-4. That tie breaker makes my head hurt.

how come you don't want the best team from the East to play for the championship?

@17/UGA fan. Nice name, you were actually supposed to use an "a" not a "an" , nice try on the rib.

Anyhow to the post because clearly you were too busy banging your wife/sister/donkey and missed the above reading. You can see that in the event of ANY 3 way tie, UGA is not going to Atlanta.

If you can't read I'd understand that as an excuse too!

Re: The scenario where Tennessee, Georgia and Kentucky all end up in a three-way tie at 5-3...if Tennessee loses one more game, and that game is lost to anyone OTHER than Kentucky, how does Kentucky move on? Doesn't UT have the tiebreak on Georgia AND Kentucky at that point? Is there some rule I'm not aware of?

#5 Mr2Bits, Newton is injured with a high ankle sprain. He will not be playing this weekend. Depending on the severity of Tebow's injury, it will be tebow all game again or the 3rd string juco transfer playing in the game.

#4 Sirbigspur. Nice scenario. I agree we will beat Florida. Damn! This SEC is a tough ride. I wish we had that Ohio state team instead of Arkansas, Florida, or Clemson.

This is going to be a wild finish. It's going to be Tennessee or GA in the championship game. I know the DAWGS will win out. Can the Vols win out against ARK, Vandy, KY? This will be great to watch.

    GO DAWGS

#16) Georgia, Florida and Vandy can not end up in a three way tie at 5-3, as Florida and Vandy would both need to win all thier games and they play each other.

#19) Kentucky, likewise, must win all their games to be 5-3, including Tennessee.

I'm thinking UGA vs LSU. I've been seeing a new phrase pop up everywhere in DAWG country and I love it - "DO YOU KNOWSHON?" He's an incredibly exciting, entergetic young player. Might I dare say it?...the next Herschel Walker?
