FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR
Julio Jones, Alabama
A few points of contention:
"Knowhso" Moreno is a unanimous selection to the 1st team? What a joke! What guy "didn't show up" more regularly for big games than Mr. Moreno?
Also...Terrance Cody is a 1st team All-SEC Tackle? I'm sorry, but a guy who doesn't play half the game on defense should not be All-Conference caliber player.
Another travesty is the selection of AJ Green as a 1st team All-SEC WR. Julio Jones is the Freshman Of The Year, yet AJ Green-also a Freshman-is a "better" WR than Jones?
Julio had no passing offense to speak of, on a mainly ground-game oriented team on his side of the ball, and he still racked up yardage, got separation, and proved to me his worth. He's a dominant, physical, well disciplined route runner who-atypically for a player of his size and youth-catches the ball away from his body (IE-with his hands...Don't laugh, a lot of kids have to be re-taught once they get onto campus).
That he isn't a 1st team WR over Green is another laughable selection.
Some other notable gaffes I'll mention include anyone from LSU's defense being named to any "team", which includes Rahim Alem, Tyson Jackson, & even Derry Beckwith, who somehow not only made an All-SEC team, but also somehow made the Butkus Award Finalist list...It's simply proof positive that the Associated Press media members are more interested in getting their plate of food and coach's post-game comments than actually watching football on the field of play.
I also think Houston Nutt deserved Coach Of The Year consideration, but I have to hand it to the Nicktator. He overachieved with his offense, and in Year 2, the defense took a major step forward.
What do you all think about this list?
