SEC Top 25 Games

It was a great weekend of SEC football and even though there weren't a lot of surprises, there were a lot of great games.

USC 23 -- Auburn 0:
"Much ado about nothing" seems to be what Auburn's hype has amounted to after their first game against Southern Cal. The Trojans did what most teams are going to have to do to beat the Tigers: put 6 or 7 guys in the box and make Campbell beat you throwing. Unfortunately for Auburn, there wasn't nearly enough protection for Campbell and they had a hard time getting much of anything going. Auburn's season isn't over, however. USC may be the best defense they'll face, and if AU can tighten up a bit and learn from this game they can still win lot of ball gamest his year.

Georgia 30 -- Clemson 0:
Questions about the lost starters have been pretty well answered now and it seems as though the Dawgs are adjusting just fine. Clemson is a good ball club, but they just didn't have what they needed to beat Georgia in Death Valley. The Georgia win was the expected outcome (expected by everyone except Clemson fans, of course) but not many thought it would be this lopsided.

La Monroe 7 -- LSU 49:
The ball game was about as ugly for Louisiana Monroe as the weather was. The game was delayed almost 40 minutes early in the first quarter due to lightning. Nine freshman got playing time late in the game as LSU's Saban started sending in the subs in the LSU rout. Mauck was 13-28 for 153 yards in his return after spending the end of last season out with a foot injury.

Fresno St. 6 -- Tennessee 24:
Playing in front of a strangely NOT sold-out Neyland Stadium, the Vols let the score end closer than the game actually was. Tennessee pulled off 433 yards of total offense behind Cedric Houston's 161 yards rushing. Tennessee looked impressive but, then again, they should have. Marshall may provide more of a challenge next week for the Vols.

San Jose St. 3 -- Florida 65:
A blocked punt. Two INTs returned for Touchdowns. A cadre of quarterbacks. Florida had no trouble send San Jose St. away beaten severely. After the game the Gator's Coach Ron Zook seemed to hint that the Quarterback-go-round may continue if they're having this level of success.
