What's up on the Plains? Redux...
It has begun on the Plains...
An expectant fanbase, a willing media, a pensive Emperor Lowder, and-allegedly-the most talent this side of the 40 acres in Austin...Expectations and emotions spiraling...
A two game out of conference year opening losing streak face plants the Tigers-who look up to see the "other" Tigers of the SEC on the brink of a national title bid-firmly back onto terra firma.
A five game win streak reinflates the pinanta-along with the media's predictions-and talk of "Auburn being the best two loss team in the country" quickly follows.
As if they were a child in his first attempts at walking, Auburn promptly falls flat on its rumpus by the way of a 31-7 demoralization by LSU.
Losses to Ole Miss and Auburn follow soon thereafter.
I ask, "What's up on the Plains?"
I ask, "What's going on with Auburn?"
I ask, "What's the Auburn fan base thinking about all this?"
...and I answer...

Being BCS Bowl eligible...or being bowl eligible?
The Sugar Bowl...or the Independence Bowl?
Tommy made a mistake when he hired Steve Ensminger, a former LSU quarterback whose last coaching stint before getting the OC job on the Plains was at Central High School about 5 minutes outside of Baton Rouge.
His teams were average at best, though his offenses did put up some gaudy numbers, and he did do wonders with the quarterbacks he had to deal with there.

He was brought in to upgrade the program over what Terry Bowden had achieved, and he hasn't delivered. Hell, his record at Auburn since taking over is worse than his replacement's at Ole Miss, against basically the same opponents.
I do think Tommy survives the season, if only because I don't see Auburn trying to get a new coach, or the alumni chipping in for the buyout, between the end of the season and a bowl game (which, given the tie-ins of the SEC, Auburn is virtually assured of).

The reason is that they could still finish with an 8-4 record, with a bowl game W. This could give Auburn some steam headed towards an offseason and recruiting season.
To axe him before the bowl, you lose continuity, focus, and cohesion in the offensive, defensive and overall gameplan. I know that some would argue continuity, focus, and cohesion in those three phases of the game aren't exactly to be found in plentiful amounts to begin with on the staff, but you know what I mean.
The best thing is to axe him after the bowl game, in my honest opinion...

That being said, I can't see a coach being fired before a bowl, unless someone on the staff is going to be promoted. And I doubt Auburn wants any of Tubby's guys after he's gone.
