Auburn President, Athletic Director, admit to clandestine meeting with Petrino...
In a shocking revelation, Auburn President Dr. William Walker and AU Athletic Director admitted late yesterday to having a secret meeting with current Louisville head football coach Bobby Petrino--a full two days before the Iron Bowl!
Louisville Athletic Director forgave Petrino, but lashed out at the Auburn Administration and Athletic Department for their secretive ways.
Auburn has said that they won't make a decision on Tuberville or his future until next week. Seems like the Plainsmen administration is talking out of both sides of their mouths on this one.
At any rate, it looks like you can put some butter on Tuberville, as he is looking more and more like toast.
But, the real question remains on the Plains: Who is Auburn going to bring in to coach the Tigers, and at the same time deal with Emperor Bobby Lowder?
Beyond that, is Auburn willing to pay the not only three million dollar buyout on Tuberville's contract to get rid of him, but the buyouts for all of his assistants as well? If Auburn pulls the trigger and Tuberville is axed, it will cost the Plainsmen AD close to 4 million before they ever sign a new coach to a contract.
Rumors have swirled around Petrino from the outset of the deathwatch for Tuberville. A new rumor that has been swirling on the internet and on the message boards in the last 24 hours has been that Auburn will even make an overture to the Evil Genius himself...None other than Steve Spurrier!
Auburn was predicted to compete for a national title, and was ranked in the preseason Top 10 in both polls, and the Tigers did face plant right out of the gates on the way to a disappointing 7-5 season, but, is the prospect of an 8 win season on the Plains really that bad?

Jimbo Fisher, LSU's offensive coordinator and a finalist for the Frank Broyles Coordinator of the Year Award in 2001 for his work with Rohan Davey, Josh Reed, LaBrandon Toefield and Domanick Davis (who are all now in the NFL), is rumored by SI.com to be a shoo-in for the Mississippi State head coaching position that will be vacated by Jackie Sheryl after the Egg Bowl.
Fisher hired agent Jimmy Sexton about a month ago, and Sexton has no assistants on his roster of clients. Some notable coaches that Sexton works for include LSU head coach Nick Saban, current (but perhaps not future) Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville, and legendary Super Bowl winning NFL head coach Bill Parcells, currently leading the overachieving Dallas Cowboys. Moo U better make a move quickly, which most say they may do so by after the Arkansas game, or they may have to deal with Auburn for Fisher's services.
Hope that ties you all over til my next LSU update...

posted on November 26, 2003 08:53 PM — linkLooks like Auburn's keeping Tele-tubby after all! USA Today's sports page has a story I'm linking here that basically says that they're sorry, they apologize, and if Tubby'll have them, they'll have Tubby...
As Bill once said to Ted before their excellent Adventure, "Strange things are afoot at the 7 Eleven...err...On the Plains..."
Cut and paste the story (I haven't figured out how to embed the links using the > stuff just yet) into your browser, and then e-mail the Auburn Administration to offer your services for the Public Relations division, because I'm positive they could use some help in that department.

This is a happy day for me as an Alabama fan... the only thing worse for Auburn than the turmoil of a coaching change is keeping Tubby.
Roll Tide.

I guess Auburn figured that if it worked when they got Tubby in the first place (who was recruited by suspiciously similar means), it'd work with Petrino too.
Morons... the whole lot of them.

None other than Colonial Bank magnate and Auburn uber-emperor Bobby Lowder...
There are precious few individuals in organized sport who cast such a large shadow over the organization which they own.
George Steinbrenner...Daniel Snyder...Jerry Jones (though he saw the light and let Parcells come in and handle things)...Mark Cuban...and now we see the real ramifications of what happens when one Machiavellian, Napoleonic, arrogant, ignorant individual gets ahold of a collegiate athletic deparmtent, and directly, their sports teams...
Bobby Lowder is a cancer. Unfortunately for Auburn, I believe it's too widespread to recover from. No simple tumor removal surgery would take care of this situation...
No, this man contributes countless thousands to the Governor's races in his state, and his manipulation of the Legislature (read: contributing money to legislators who will advance his agenda) to stay in power at Auburn is astounding.
The list of financial webs of entaglements he's ensnared the Auburn Board of Trustees in to ensure their fealty and their deference to his wishes is amazing...
Auburn's own student newspaper dared speak out against him, and he attempted to literally fold the journalism department-which produces The Plainsmen-into another department at the school entirely, to attempt to shut them up from exposing his legal and financial finanglings to keep himself in control on the Plains...
The NCAA can do nothing. The Southeastern Conference can do nothing. The state can do nothing...This man is there for life...
He is truly a modern day emperor, his empire an entire collegiate university in Alabama, appointed via his own corrupt power and the corrupting influence of his money.
A bigger threat to the University of Auburn has never been seen...A more embarassing, damning situation is not to be seen on the collegiate landscape.
Amazing when you stop to think what he's done...

Regarding Jimbo Fischer and the job opening in Stankville-- he'd be wise to pass on that one. It's a no-win situation, and I suspect there will be some more attractive coaching positions open next year.

He's itching to go, because Saban asks for and expects no less than a frenetic, constant, huge workload to be heaped upon his assistants and then be delivered upon...
Trust me, Fisher's either gone to a HC position, or he's gone to another OC job...
