South Carolina 17, Troy 7

The Gamecocks defeated Troy 17-7 in Columbia last night.

Dondrial Pinkins started at Quarterback for South Carolina and shared time with Syvelle Newton. Coach Lou Holtz says the Cocks will continue to use a two-quarterback rotation and that there's no quarterback controversy.

Pinkins was 6 of 10 for 101 yards with an interception and a fumble and rushed 5 times for 15 yards. Newton was 10 of 14 for 98 yards through the air and rushed 11 times for 18 yards.

Pinkins was under center for the 81-yard opening drive of the game that included a 61-yard touchdown pass to Troy Williamson. Newton helmed the offense on a 80-yard drive in the 3rd Quarter that wiped over 7 minutes off the clock and culminated in a 6-yard quarterback run for a touchdown.

Defensively, S.C. held the Trojan offense to 207 total yards and 9 first downs.

39-year old walk-on Tim Frisby (previously mentioned here) saw action on the final four plays of the game. Earlier in the week, Frisby talked to Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger in a phone conversation requested by the now-famous Notre Dame walk-on. Besides being featured on College Football GameDay, Frisby has had media requests from CNN, Good Morning America, the N.Y. Times and the L.A. Times. He has also been in discussions with publishers, screenwriters and studios, including Warner Bros., about book movie rights.

Running Back Demetrius Summers was cleared to play but held out of the game by the S.C. coaches to give him more time to recuperate from his ankle injury.

Looks like LSU won't have so much to fear from Troy as they looked to 2 weeks ago.

Running Back Demetris Summers is listed as doubtful for South Carolina's trip to Alabama this Saturday, but he still hopes to play. Summers suffered a high ankle sprain and has been out 2 and a half weeks already. He was held out of Saturday's win...
