Frisby to Appear on Letterman Thursday

South Carolina's Tim Frisby, the 39-year old walk-on Army vet who played against Troy, has been excused from practice today and gotten a waiver from the NCAA to fly to New York and appear on the Late Show with David Letterman tonight. John Travolta and Pearl Jam will also be guests. Frisby will not be on the travel squad for the game at Alabama this weekend.

Paramount Pictures sent 3 executives to meet with Frisby last Saturday morning. He's also had interest from Sony, DreamWorks and Warner. Bros. A formal movie deal would end his eligibility.

The media attention on Frisby increases every week. He appeared on Cold Pizza yesterday. He has had over 100 requests for interviews from print and broadcast outlets. The Tonight Show with Jay Leno has also requested Frisby be a guest. A feature on Frisby the weekend of the Georgia game when ESPN College GameDay was in Columbia started the wave of media coverage.

Frisby has been compared to Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger, also a military veteran, who walked on at Notre Dame and later was the subject of a movie. Frisby and Ruettiger have talked and Skip Holtz discusses "Rudy" from his years at Notre Dame in an article today.

In 1996, Frisby declared for the NBA draft after playing pickup games in the D.C. area with several other future NBA players, including Allen Iverson of Georgetown, while he was stationed at the Pentagon.
