Tennessee/Auburn Commentary

For the first time this season, freshman quarterbacks Eric Ainge and Brent Shaeffer looked like, well, freshman. Ainge completed three passes to Auburn's Junior Rosegreen. That's more than he hit some of his other wide receivers during the course of the entire game. The turnovers were costly early, especially Ainge's fumble on the one after the defense took the ball away two plays before. The Vols dug a hole and never could recover, having to abandon the strong running game that has been the lynchpin of the offense this season and going to the pass early and often.

The Tigers took the momentum of the game early and poured it on like a "tidal wave" according to head coach Phillip Fulmer.

The defense played on their heels as well, allowing Auburn to gain 43 yards on a third and long. You're not going to beat many teams allowing for such a gain.

The road for the Vols freshman QBs doesn't get any easier next week, as they head on the road for the first time to Athens, where the Georgia Bulldogs looked like a potential national championship team for the first time this season against LSU. If the Vols don't show up like they did against Auburn, expect another long afternoon for the Volunteers.
