Holtz Suspends Starting WR Thomas
South Carolina Head Coach Lou Holtz announced the suspension of starting wide receiver Matthew Thomas for "a minimum" of 3 weeks today. Holtz didn't go into much detail but said the suspension was for "class attendance and other academic reasons."
Thomas is not attending practice during the suspension. He would miss the Ole Miss game this Saturday and the Kentucky game next Saturday. The Gamecocks have an open date the Saturday after that before playing Tennessee so it's unclear whether the suspension is for the next 3 games or for 3 calendar weeks. Noah Whiteside would be his replacement at starter.
Thomas scored on a 98-yard touchdown catch in last year's failed comeback attempt against the Rebels in Oxford.
