Halftime: Ole Miss 21, S. Carolina 14
Ole Miss has played 3 quarterbacks so far in the game. The Rebels jumped out to a 14-0 lead and the Gamecocks answered it with a touchdown drive following a QB change with Blake Mitchell in. Ole Miss answered that to make it 21-7 but the Gamecocks answered on a drive that had sputtered at their own 5. The Gamecocks ran a fake punt deep inside their own territory, but unlike against Florida last year, it was successful. Syvelle Newton ran in from 38 yards out to make it 21-14.
Ole Miss scored on their next possession but it was called back. They fumbled inside the S.C. 10 yard-line shortly thereafter, giving Carolina a chance to score with a minute or so left. The Gamecocks apparently scored just before halftime but it was called back after it was ruled an illegal forward pass, as Newton went past the line of scrimmage. There was no time left for a field goal try or another shot at the end zone apparently.
There's no t.v. coverage of this game except pay-per-view here in the state of S.C. From what I've heard on the radio and seen on the updating box score, it sounds like the Gamecocks have had trouble stopping the Rebels in the first half. Ole Miss seems to be getting most of it done on the ground - at one point early in the 2nd quarter they already had 144 yards rushing.
