Oh yay, Another Spurrier Post
SI's Tim Layden has a new piece on Spurrier and where he might land now that he's told Florida no.
He lists 5 possibilities and makes the case for each one quite well. Ok, he makes the case for 4 of his 5 quite well; Steve Spurrier is NOT going to Notre Dame, Tim. Not now, not ever. However, I fail to see how one of SI's senior writers could compile a list of potential Spurrier destinations and fail to even mention Texas. Brown's popularity with the UT fans and boosters is seriously in the crapper right about now. He produces good teams but not great teams, and the folks at UT want a great team. And they can afford one. I think it's fairly obvious to all concerned that as long as Stoops is at Oklahoma, it's going to take more than Brown to compete with the Sooners. Not only that, but Spurrier's tude is a perfect fit for those cocky Horns. It's all just speculation of course, but I'd put UT ahead of at least 2 of Layden's picks (Washington and Notre Dame).

posted on November 9, 2004 12:52 PM — linkI hear that Steve is in process of building a house on the Lake here in Columbia. Lou refuses to say that he will be back only that there is a good foundation here and the right coach will take the team to next level. The golf is awesome and so are the facilities! Has anyone heard that the Ol' coach is heading to the USC!? I never believed Lou was coming til I heard it anounced so I am skeptical but really starting to believe.

In it is a quote at the bottom from Spurrier saying he wants to coach somewhere in the South.

posted on November 9, 2004 09:53 PM — linkDave,
My point was Spurrier has been "seen" buying lakefront property in every college football town in the South over the past year whenever someone got dissatisfied with their coach.dave frey says:
posted on November 9, 2004 10:02 PM — linkI know how that goes. Before we hired Nick Saban, every coach in the NFL and at least half the D1 college coaches were allegedly seen in Baton Rouge. I'm pretty sure one talk radio show said they saw The Bear's ghost talking with LSU's A.D.

His offense is erratic, even though it sells tickets, and he absolutely screwed Florida before he left. Somebody tell me what is so attractive about this guy.
