Thompson hired at South Carolina
Fired ECU head coach John Thompson has been hired as defensive coordinator at South Carolina. Thompson has been defensive coordinator at Arkansas, Southern Miss and Florida.
Reports indicate that Thompson plans to run a 4-3 with mixed coverage. He will also coach linebackers, which leaves openings at defensive line coach and secondary coach. Former Thompson assistant Rick Stockstill is one of 3 assistants Steve Spurrier retained on the Gamecock coaching staff.
Other names mentioned for the job were Jon Hoke, Bo Pelini and Ray Rhodes.
