Fanblogs Commenting Policy

Recently the tenor and language of comments here on Fanblogs has come to resemble a locker room full of sailors or, worse, a team fan forum. Further, in addition to the mere language, the content has been... shall we say... juvenile.

Fanblogs has, and has had, a commenting policy. Effective immediately, comments with profanity will not be tolerated. If you cannot make your point without resorting to profanity, please make your point elsewhere.

Further, personal insults are to be avoided as well. Again, this may be perfectly acceptable at other websites or forums, but they are not welcome here.

Comments in violation of the policy will be deleted and the future commenting privileges of the poster revoked as per the above-linked policy.

Questions and clarifications should be posted here.

The thought of turning off all comments does not excite me, but it has crossed my mind. I'm this far [holds up fingers showing width of dime] from setting up forced moderation for all comments, and white-listing those that show that they deserve such a privilege.

Now that you have announced this sensible, needed editorial "rule of the road", please enforce it uniformly. Those who object to the measure actually need it. It will be an improvement to see cleaned up language or silence from the challenged characters you have targeted. Thank you, Mr. Holiday, for stepping up and improving this forum.

Bah! Everyone knows that a good discussion about Michigan State, for example, can't continue without the requisite "MSU SUX" and "GO SPARTY!" posts.

Oh, wait... that's not right. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth, no matter which team you're discussing. There's one thing to be passionate about your team and vehemently defend it. It's quite another thing to spew posts that do nothing to help the discussion.

As for the vulgarity, I completely agree. If you absolutely can't make your point without cursing, maybe you need to take a few deep breaths, calm down, and realize that it's not the end of the world.

Thank you, Kevin! I'm sure the moderation duties will add some extra work to your plate, but it is appreciated!

Bravo guys, and in the future I will abstain from vulgarity. I guess the whole Oklahoma Bomb thing made it a little crazy in here, huh?!

Thanks for the support. I think the uptick in hostility needed to get toned down. We'll try to be as uniform as possible and appreciate any help y'all can offer in keeping the place in order. And don't worry, we'll try to keep a good "plays nice with others" list to get frequent visitors comments posted ASAP.

Hat tip on the profanity policy. Vulgar words are far too precious to be tossed around haphazardly.

Kudos, thanks for making this place more civil. I know I have posted more than one message a bit hastily, and have probably been one of the people that irritated someone here at least once. If so, sorry about that, and I'll be classier from now on...
