Gamecocks lose 5 underclassmen

It appears that the South Carolina Gamecocks will be without the services of 5 current underclassmen next season. LB Dustin Lindsey has been declared academically ineligible after reportedly not enrolling for spring classes. QB Antonio Heffner is transferring to Tennessee State and TB Albert Ashcraft is transferring to Western Carolina.

Two DBs, Jonathan Joseph and Ko Simpson, are expected to announce that they are entering the NFL draft at a 4 p.m. teleconference Monday.

Other than the two guys entering the draft, I doubt, if the ol' ball coach even cares. Heck, he was runnin' em' out of the program last year. That'll just be five more scholarships that he can hand out to his kind of players. It won't make any difference at all.

Losing players doesn't mean you can add more scholarship players beyond the yearly limit, especially remembering that South Carolina is on NCAA probation and has two less scholarships than the maximum this season.

They are steadily becoming a short-handed football team.

SC will be just fine. If he can run out as many people as he did when he came in, take back scholarships that kids were offered and then have a pretty good season... He'll be just fine. I think he's just getting more of HIS KIND of guys. I really fear SC in the next couple of years. They are replacing Tennessee as one of the SEC East Mainstays.

I hope people are really and truly seeing what is going on here. Under Steve Spurrier the Gamecocks have done what they couldn't do while we had another Hall of Fame Coach in Lou Holtz. We are setting ourselves up to be a Perennial National Football Powerhouse. As a Long Time GameCock fan, I'm loving this transition. Hell it doesn't even stop there, we came along at the end of the season, and fought our ways to what a lot of people are now seeing, which is obvious to Fans of the SEC. Is an impressive Basketball conference, and made it to the final, and had a chance to win. We didn't, but we then go and win the NIT, which is still a post season tournament. Hell only two teams can claim they won their post season tournaments, and another year goes by and the Gamecocks are one of those teams. Now back to football. The Gamecocks were the closet we have ever been to representing the SEC East in the SEC Championship game, and any GameCock fan out there should be stoked about what is to come. We should expect a better Tenn. Team, a Better Florida Team, and a not as good Georgia team which we should have beat again this past year. I like our odds, and I like our odds with the 'Ol Ball Coach patrolling the sidelines. Go Cocks Go!
