Gamecocks add 9 I-AA games to future schedules

The South Carolina Gamecocks have announced future schedules that include 9 games against 4 different in-state I-AA foes. 3 of the opponents are currently members of the Southern Conference and the fourth is a member of the MEAC. South Carolina will host the Wofford Terriers in 2006, 2008 and 2012; the South Carolina State Bulldogs of the MEAC in 2007 and 2011; the Citadel Bulldodgs in 2009 and 2013; and the Furman Paladins in 2010 and 2014.

The 2007 meeting against S.C. State will be the first football game between the two schools.

All right PAC - 10 fans. Let's hear the bashing begin! Just to point out though: all this adds up to is a I - AA opponent a year just like the vast majority of all the other major schools do, especially schools that historically have not won much, which certainly describes South Carolina.

This schedule just goes to show the lack of nutz by Spurrier. He bolted from UF after the other teams in the SEC that used to be terrible started to be the same talent wise as UF. This news shows why the BCS should set up a minimum number of out of conference quality opponents you are required to play.

And let the west coast inhabitants' display of their infinite knowledge of weak SEC scheduling begin!!

Hey, do you know anybody who slows down to look at "Roadkill"? Man, I can picture everybody in South Carolina jumpin' out of their cars and even taking snapshots and then takin' em' back and puttin' them in the ol' family album. "Hey man, that was cousin Chester's possum - I just knowed it".
Hey, is it legal to schedule any JC teams to play against? Do they even have any JC teams to play in South Carolina? I can't imagine that they do or else "the Ol' RollerBall Coach" would be scheduling them.
I was kinda fascinated by watching some crows trying to eat a "run over" rabbit the other day - all the while dodging between oncoming traffic trying not to get run over themselves. It was interesting to note that the crows were probably gonna be somebody else's food in just a short period of time. But time being what it is, and I just did not have enough of it, I had to move on. I'm still wondering if the crows got creamed and then the Hawks feasted on them. And, then who would have feasted on the "flattened" Hawks? I wonder if the same "natural selection" phenomenom will happen to the GameCocks when they hit SEC play? I know that there are a few hungry teams that would not mind dining on a "fattened" Rooster. Well, since I find the subject matter so fascinating - maybe there is some hope for me after all. Maybe I'll be able to sit down and thoroughly enjoy watching my Trojans beat down someone like Humbolt State 96-0! Hopefully, they'll play the thing in Humbolt County - because I'm gonna have to get real high to find that kind of massacre amusing.

Is this anyway to get the Cocks and their new coach better rankings? Go Bulldogs?

Easy PAC-10 foes. 8 of your teams should be competing in 1-AA. Last i checked, the PAC-10 played 6 1-AA teams last year and did you forget that Stanford LOST to UC Davis? How tough does Grambling, Portland St. Sacramento St, Montana sound to you.

Again, PAC - 10 fans. This only amounts to one Division I - AA game a year for a team that has never even made a major bowl game (let alone won one) or won a major conference title (or perhaps even a minor one). Get a grip.

the sec schools do not want to play top schools, they would rather feast on D1-AA or mid majors (like kent state, utah state and the other powerhouses). then the wonder why the do not get in the championship game (auburn-2004). when will they learn.

Reading this thread - What the F was that?
"Gerald" comes out practically asking for PAC fans to bash the schedule... "Jarred" follows that another provoking-type comment... "JCoins" is quick to point to the PAC's non-Div 1A schedule of 2005... Its all seems a bit too 'defensive'.

Even "cooked gator" goes after Spurrier more so than attacking the SEC's scheduling...
Tommy T is practially the only PAC guy thats critical... and as a USC fan (not an Oregon St or Wazzu fan) he's got plenty of room to talk. When was the last time you saw a Non-D1A opponent on USC's Schedule? 1942 vs Montana (unless Utah St wasnt D1a in 1989, but you get the picture).

If anyone's asking for a comparison, the PAC faced 16 Non-D1A opponents from 2000 to 2005... the SEC faced 30! (but I could be mistaken).
Spurrier's gonna try to fluff-up SoCarolina's record, so what, SEC teams are no strangers to that.

I see no difference in Div II and the majority of schools in the Pac 10. What's the difference? Both have above par talent........

I swear all of these usc and so cal fans should stay over on the west coast with the sorry teams and the SEC will stay over here countinue to dominate the BCS.the sec keeps at leat 5 teams in the top 25 every year. The reason why Auburn wasn't in "ship" was because the bcs people didn't want to see USC loose with the team they had. When all new coaches come to new schools they get easy schedules for recruiting but i do remember UCF.they were the one's who backed out so they would have a better record next year because they knew that they would have a BIG loss if they played us. the only sec team the Sac-10 plays in the SEC is arkansas which always around the bottom of the sec. take some real compitition and a real sec team like LSU or Florida hell just play someone Acc and show how good you are but they won't because coaches and staff know the outcome the East coast stays on top hate or LOVE it. S.Carolina will be there really really soon!

Spurrier fan, keep telling yourself that, but just know that it only makes a difference in Your Mind, not reality.

Listen, a Win is a Win, Im the first to say that. But try to re-write certain events...
LSU 7-2 in the SEC just BARLEY got by Arizona St 4-4 in the PAC... and that was with ASU essentially HANDED OVER 14 POINTS with a couple of special teams brain-fart/bone-head plays and a little sympathy from the Officials... remember the Game winning "Katrina Catch" that actually wasnt ever "Caught", WR bobbling the ball til he was flat on his back AND out of bounds (dont pretend you dont remember THAT)... all Im saying is Keep things in perspective.

SEC not playing top schools? How many top 10 teams did Auburn beat in 2004? Look that up! Oklahoma played a non-ranked team in their conference final in 04. The Big 12 that year couldn't have rivaled the Catholic high school league in my area!
I just wish USC would have beat OU worse...proving that the BCS is a joke!!!
Im for playoffs! (only so I can watch more football)

As a graduate of South Carolina State University, some comments about USC schedule is silly. USC has never matched up against the powers of Big Time Football. Major colleges don't get enthused about playing USC because of the lack of Polished Behavior Patterns. Playing the D I AA schools of SC is a Win-Win situation for all Football teams of South Carolina. It is not about the Gamecocks, it about the all-State football players within the Palmetto State. The Bulldogs of South Carolina State University will crush your party.
Not by guaranteeing a win but by adding to the professional Schools you play. BA - MBA

The problem with USC's schedule isnt these IAA games. I actually think it is good to play ONE in state rival a year, and actually the Southern Conference (Furman, Citadel, Wofford) is pretty strong for a IAA conference. The problem, however, is consistently playing teams like Florida Atlantic and Middle Tennessee St. Its great to play a game against a cupcake while helping smaller SC schools pocketbooks, but you don't get to do that AND play two more mid-majors (at best) a year. If you want to play Furman (or Wofford), then schedule a Northwestern or Univ of Virginia or something to offset it.
