Gamecocks could add series with N.C. State

South Carolina and North Carolina State could add a home-and-home series in 2008 and 2009 to their schedules. S.C. Athletic Director Eric Hyman wouldn't confirm the discussions and head coach Steve Spurrier said that talks with a "comparable state university" had taken place. Spurrier then mentioned a list of schools that included Georgia Tech, Maryland, N.C. State and Virginia. State's sports information director said the two schools had been talking and that ESPN was interested in one or both of the games.

The 2008 game would be in Columbia and 2009 would be in Raleigh if a deal is reached. The last time the two schools met was in Raleigh in 1999 for Lou Holtz's first game. The Wolfpack won 10-0 in that one in tropical storm conditions. State leads the all-time series 26-25-4.

The Wolfpack are looking for another home-and-home after the Tennessee series was cancelled while the Gamecocks have also scheduled North Carolina in 2007 and 2010. South Carolina officials have indicated a desire to play other ACC or regional schools with the permanent 12-game schedule. Hyman said that they would prefer to play home games with these opponents in years that the Clemson game is away and play them on the road when that rivalry is played in Columbia.

SC's "comparable state university" list would start with Rutgers. How many other flagship state universities have accomplished so very little for more than 100 years.

Any really good matchups coming up in the next few years? I know that Ole Miss has added Georgia Tech for 2010 and 11.

North Carolina vs. South Carolina could e interesting as well as the NC State game. It may even create a new rivalry if the draw is big enough.

Mooka,SEC leads Nation in Attendance thread is broke down or something. Here are the week 1 picks for you.
    Alabama-Hawaii 24-17
    Arkansas-USC 21-35
    Auburn-Wash St 48-10
    LSU-ULL 55-20
    Miss St-So Car 14-35
    Ole Miss-Memphis 21-20

    Florida-So Miss 30-24
    Georgia-West Ky 38- 7
    Kentucky-L-ville 21-30
    Tennessee-Cal 28-27
    Vandy-Michigan 17-48

These are my picks.I'm just an ex-tailback though.I'm not a Las Vegas gambler or anything like that. Some of these games could get ugly in a hurry.Auburn-Wash St,LSU-ULL,So Car might bring it to Miss St,Georgia-West Ky will be a joke,Michigan and Vandy could get out of hand fast!Last, but not least Tennessee and California should be a Great game.If Cal comes into Neyland ready to play ball this game should be a great one.If Cal comes into Neyland awestruck by 107,000 fans than they will lose.I've played in Neyland and let me tell you. It's INTIMIDATING and LOUD.I haven't played in the other BIG houses being an ex-SEC player. As a player anywhere from 39,000-88,000 is nothing compared to the 107,000 at Neyland.Than there is also Death Valley(LSU).The one,the only DEATH VALLEY!!!Someone mentioned on another thread about Clemson and the decibel factor that the stadium put out at one time.LSU Registered on the Richter Scale at one point. This Scale detects vibrations and movement within the EARTH!!!Enough about that.Being an ex-SEC player I won't even get into the noise factor at field level. It's sic when you can't hear your QB.Well, that's that Mooka.I'm out.HOLLA

    FSU 21 Miami 17
Drew Weatherford and his receivers will be too much this year.Florida State returns to National prominence this season.Top 5 team sneaking up on everybody! With the 2006 schedule they should go undefeated.Might lose 1 game.Don't be surprised when they are 11-0 when Florida comes to town on Nov 25th.Top 5 team.BCS Bound.Bowden has a sleeper this season.I'm out.HOLLA

What's up T-mac. Yea, I guess our scores are pretty close except I still think USC will get upset. Maybe not 100-0, but they will get upset. Arkansas will play a brutally physical game in their house. Don't ask me what the score may be on that one.
It's funny you brought up that Clemson thread. I read that one a while back and I didn't even know Clemson fans called their field that until I read the post. Talk about "the one and only" I'm not disrepecting the Clemson program but they need to at least get ranked in the top ten before the fans can start claiming one and only anything. It's all about who's on top.
oh, yea and that Miami v Fla St. game... I don't think Miami will be much of anything this year. I will be surprised if they make it to a bowl. It certainly will not be the typical rivalry between these 2 teams. I don't know, it just seems to me when you fire 4 of your top coaching staff that have helped get you into bowls for the last 10 or something years then you might be putting yourself in a rut. Florida will shut Miami out. Call it a bold statement. 24-0. Okay, I'll brace for shock on that one. Miami fans hit me with your best shot.

Oh, yea and as for this match-up. Can't wait to see it. It will be a very interesting match-up. Spurrier should have his team fully loaded by this time though. Might not be as great a game as some may think. I just can't stand it when they put this info out so soon. Why don't they just surprise us?
