Gamecock tailback apologizes over drug reference
South Carolina tailback Cory Boyd apologized Saturday for remarks he made Thursday night during the Gamecocks's 15-0 victory at Mississippi State.
Boyd's remarks were made on the sideline to ESPN's cameras after he scored on touchdown pass from wide receiver Syvelle Newton. After Boyd paid tribute to his mother, who passed away earlier this year, he said, "I'm back. I'm back like cooked crack."
The crack reference apparently came from a rap album by Juelz Santana.
Boyd was suspended for the entire season last year for a violation of athletic department policy. Rumor at the time indicated that the nature of his violation was a failed drug test. About that time, the athletic department implemented a controversial new drug policy that gives student-athletes caught using drugs four strikes. The DEA pulled out of a charity golf tournament it helped sponsor with the university after the policy was announced.
Boyd was also investigated after a female student had her vehicle tires slashed after Boyd allegedly threatened to do so while verbally abusing the student and her roommate over a debt. 2 hours, the tires were slashed.
Boyd considered transferring, after the suspension, but ultimately decided to finish his college career in Columbia.
Boyd's apology:
I want to say that I apologize to my university, my coaches, and my family for the actions I took after a play during the game. I really let my team down. I'm sorry for the actions that happened. It will never happen again. It was a very immature thing of me to do and I hope everybody who saw it, they understand where I'm coming from. I don't want any sympathy. I just want y'all to understand that it was real immature of me and it won't happen again.
Head coach Steve Spurrier called Boyd's original comments "pretty stupid" but didn't elaborate on whether any disciplinary action would be taken. Video of Boyd's comments at YouTube can be found here and here.

South Carolina needs to suspend him for the next game. They are thought of as a joke when it comes to their drug policy and his stupid comment isn't going to help that. SC needs to take a stand for once and let their druggie players know that this isn't the way they want their football program and school showcased (unless that is what the school wants to be known for)

I assume that the screen name above is a University of Miami fan? Can you say "Crack Rock U" South Carolina does not have a lot of druggie players. Sure, they had a few under Holtz and may have some now (everywhere does), but I can promise you that Spurrier does not tolerate the behavior. Summers was just booted last year along with 7 or 8 more for various reasons. Miami is known nationally as THUG U, so that leaves you no room to run your mouth! By the way, nice loss to the Noles...AGAIN!

No, Tampa Hurricane. He should not be suspended. He was jacked up after a big play and made a silly comment. Should he have said it? No. Is it a big deal? Not really.
Worry about your own program -- you've got enough problems without worrying about some sideline yakkin'.
Over 'n out.

Jimmy SC must have had a reason to decide to change from the uniform drug policy like all major college programs to the weakest drug policy in all of college football. You also need to realize that it is not the 1980s anymore and the only people that still consider Miami Thug U are the fans of loser programs that are still jealous that the University of Miami is such a better program than theirs. If you read this article and the related articles you will understand that SC has major disciplinary problems. (Then again you are an SEC fan and we all know that the average SEC fan has a third grade reading level so maybe you are not able to read this article!)

Gatorpilot you need to factor in the past of a player when deciding how to punish him. Cory is a crack head that was suspended for the entire for a drug test. He should have learned his lesson and known not to mention anything about drugs. Instead because he is an intelligent SEC football player, he didn't learn his lesson and humiliated the program with that statement.

RE: Tampa Hurricane -
Question: "I wonder how UM get those excellent scholars & community-oriented players to come to it's prestigious school"
Answer: Willie Williams has asked Miami to release him from his scholarship - Williams was allowed to enroll at Miami two years ago despite having 11 entries on his arrest record.
Oh, that clears it up - guess you don't even need a 3rd grade education if you can pack heat, smoke weed & smack your women around? I'm willing to bet the ACC Conf Commissioners wish they could go back in time & make that choice all over again! Embarassment.
Or, maybe you can just blame it all on Coker? Besides, who else wants to coach Convict U?!
Ps. If you need help with bigger words:

Cock-oN-Fire can you name one thing that Williams has done wrong since being accepted into Miami. No you can't because Miami gave him a second chance but he had to be a model citizen during his stay here. If he had commited any problems he would have been kicked off the team. It's funny that everyone that tries to knock Miami's program either used things that have occured in the 80s or Williams who all the major programs tried to recruit. I know you are some stupid SEC fan, but if you read the post that you made, it makes absolutely no sense. Hopefully are are more idiotic than that average SEC fan, but you are helping to bring the image of them all down.

Impressive & highly intellectual posting Mr. Tampa! It's rather obvious that you must've been an English major. I assume you did graduate the U, right?
But please, in the future, quit embarrassing other UM fans and let your Daddy read what you write before you hit Post! This is just sad ...

Oh yeah Mr. Tampa, forgot this little tidbit of info ...
Angered by his team’s dip in the BCS ratings, a Miami Hurricanes player reportedly stole the BCS computer from the NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis late last night and sold it for crack.
“Yes, the BCS computer was stolen last evening and we are currently in search of a member of the Miami Hurricanes who was caught on camera stealing it,” said Scott McGraw, a BCS spokesman. “As for the whereabouts of the computer, we are scouring pawn shops throughout the city in hopes of finding the computer, but we also thankfully have several backup computers that contain all of the BCS data.”
Miami head coach Larry Coker expressed support for the embattled player.
“This program by no means publicly endorses theft or the smoking of crack,” said Coker, “but we understand this episode occurred under a cloud of disappointment over the BCS rankings and he will be welcomed back to the team with open arms.”utfan4fun said:

Tampa Hurricane, you say that SEC fans are dumb? Look at SEC Schedules and the talent the SEC has. Who cares what a kid says while on the sidelines, and yes those are kids. Obviously you never played any competive sports where you made a big play and got a little excited. Big deal.
Tennessee had a horrible season last year, but yet are our fans kept coming to the games and kept supporting our team. That is a fans job, support your team no matter what is going on.

Let me explain:
If the young man would have said, "I'm so good I'm must be trippin'" (or something to that effect), no one would have said anything. I find this interesting as trippin', a word made popular by counter-cultures in the 1960s to descibe the L.S.D. experience, no longer facilitates an adverse reaction by society. Think about it.
Peace out.
