South Florida locks up Leavitt to fend off K-State
The only coach in the history of the South Florida football team agreed to a three year contract extension, ensuring that Jim Leavitt will be at USF through 2012. The extension comes in the wake of overt moves by Kansas State to lure Leavitt back to his K-State roots. Leavitt was seen by many as the front runner to replace Bill Snyder.
The base salary plus compensation for radio, television and appearances will average $1 million per year over the length of the contract. The annual salary in 2006 will be $600,000 with an escalation each year thereafter. All monies provided in the contract will be drawn from gate receipts, private fundraising corporate partnerships, television and radio rights fees, and Big East Conference and NCAA revenues. No Education and General Fund (state) monies or student fees will be utilized.Other than the addition of a $75,000 incentive for a BCS bowl appearance, the incentives portion of the contract remains unchanged.
The new terms also increase the buyout of the contract. If Coach Leavitt resigns his position between the effective date and January 1, 2008, the buyout is $500,000. The buyout drops to $400,000 between January 1, 2008 and January 1, 2012. There is no buyout if the contract is terminated between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2012.

The Big East has an automatic bid through 2007...deal with it. In which time we will re-build our conference in spite of money grubbing conferences taking talented teams and recruits. As for the WVU fans not knowing where Atlanta is...read the economic statistics of the states surrounding Georgia and then ask yourself, can most Georgia natives find Atlanta?

South Fla is the #2 team in a BCS conference, and are in danger of losing their coach to a team that went 4-7.... ok I am just joking. I am just happy he resigned with South Florida, I would hate to see Mark Richt leave UGA for South Florida, I am sure Richt as well as Fullmer, Meyer, Bobby Bowden, and Carroll were all foaming at the mouth to be a part of the prominence that is, as we know it, THE BIG EAST. hahaha. But serisouly, can we just all vote to have the Big East automatic BCS spot changed to another a large? I know WVU is going to be in atl, but do their fans even know where atlanta is?
