Temple coaching search going backwards

Another potential Temple football coach has pulled his name from consideration, making it more difficult for the Owls to name a new head coach by the original deadline on Thursday.

Notre Dame assistant John Latina, who was the offensive-line coach on North Broad Street under Bruce Arians from 1983 to '88, has told people he has withdrawn his name from consideration.

He joins Arians, now a Steelers assistant who was the alumni favorite, former Washington and Colorado coach Rick Neuheisel, Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Tom Clements and Penn State defensive coordinator Tom Bradley as prominent candidates who are no longer in the picture.

According to published reports, there are still several candidate under consideration: Wisconsin co-offensive coordinator Brian White, retired Marshall coach Bob Pruett, University of San Diego coach Jim Harbaugh, and Fresno State offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti.
