Report: Sanders Stepping Down
The Tennessean is reporting that University of Tennessee offensive coordinator Randy Sanders has stepped-down. The news should be made public at a press conference this afternoon.
Head coach Phillip Fulmer will take over offensive coordinate duties until the end of the season.
Sanders will remain with the Tennessee football team until season's end as quarterbacks coach.

As a Gamecock fan, it's amusing to watch Volfan jump off the ledge. COme on, it's not really that bad, you lost to 3 very good ranked teams and beat LSU. As for the Carolina game, well, we just have a better coach. I see you winning out the rest and going to a decent bowl with 7 wins. Welcome to mediocrity. :)

Looks like only a cosmetic move to me. Most insiders believe Coach Fulmer has been pulling the strings on offense all this time, anyway. This move just takes a little heat off Sanders and, to a lesser extent, Fulmer. Shuffling the same deck of cards.

I agree with VOLPIMP. At this point we need to start getting ready for next year. Its time to bench Clausen for good and play Ainge the rest of the year no matter how bad he does. If he gets hurt bring in Jim Bob Cooter.

Cutcliffe is out and resting following his procedure. I'm not sure that anyone knows if/when he will return to coaching full-time. That said, he was under contract with Notre Dame. Since UND doesn't disclose contract details, we can only presume that he is still with the Irish.

I can't say anything about Cutcliffe's contract with ND because I have no idea. I do have a friend with family on the Ole Miss staff who is still close to David and he says the Cutcliffe's recently bought a home in Knoxville. David has been doing radio work for a station that covers UT and I heard him say he wasn't sure what his next move was, this was after UAB though. Fulmer can't blame the rest of the staff for this, he is as much to blame for not seeing this ahead of time. Maybe he's paying his dues for the whole Bama thing now, you think? Either way, they will be back, and with Jonathon Crompton healthy next year we should have a real QB controversy instead of which guy sucks better today.

its not sanders fault there losing the blame should be on the players! as they the 2 fumbles at alabama inside the twenty cost us that game !
and the fumble at the endzone against south carolina cost us that one to!then you got the receivers not catching the ball when it hit there hands !sander cant control fumbles and dropped passesBigVol said:

I can't believe the talent we have and the record. Before the Alabama game Fulmer made the comment that we were not a 3 and 3 team. Now we are four and three and playing Notre Dame this weekend. Fulmer needs to realize he is old school and quit packing Sanders bags and pack hi own!

Coordinators are the ultimate scapegoats. The Head Man sets the tone. Everyone including ESPN talks about all the talent at UT. National top five recruiting classes for the past how many years? Fulmer sets the tone. Fulmer controls the discipline or the lack of it. Any high school coach will tell you that most penalties, dropped passes, fumbles, lack of effort are all a result of a lack of discipline. All that talent and a 3-4 record. It ain't all Randy's fault.

Underachieving players, which we have aplenty, should be benched. To consistently fumble, drop passes, and throw 10 yards over a receiver and still get playing time results in losses. The players and the staff are to blame, if your staff can't motivate and fix the problems you have to evaluate your staff. You can't just kick a guy off the team for bad play so the coaches are all that's left. A good coach gets the best out of his players. I would rather watch a less talented Jim Bob Cooter play and us lose than the much hyped guys we are losing with now.

Sanders IS (part of) the problem, along with Phil, Pat and probably others. The players are a separate issue all together. The attitude of a team ALWAYS reflects its leadership. If Phil and company have done everything they possibly can to motivate their kids and this is the result, then they've recruited the wrong kids. I never have believed that Fulmer was a great motivator. He routinely has trouble getting his guys up for the big games, even at home. I also believe that he and his staff doesn't recruit Tennessee well enough. Bear Bryant would make sure he had thoroughly recruited his home state before going elsewhere. He got the kids who would bleed for Alabama on Saturday. How many of those kids does Phil have? Few if any, they all play for someone else because they weren't "blue chippers".Its time for an overhaul, and whomever needs to go so be it. I feel little sympathy with the salaries these guys are making. By the way, Randy was making over $200,000 for his services.Lastly - we DO NOT need Cutcliff back. Surely we haven't forgotten his overly conservate play callig. Please NO!
