Tennessee spin machine addresses starting LB arrest

The Phil Fulmer spin machine is in full-on assault mode, or so it would seem in the wake of the arrest of starting Tennessee LB Marvin Mitchell. The UT coach has placed Mitchell on indefinite suspension.

Beyond the suspension, however, Fulmer took the time to let the papers know that he "blasted" the team Monday night following the arrest.

UT even took the unusual step of including player comments in the release, which said --of course-- how mad Fulmer was about the arrest.

In announcing Mitchell's suspension yesterday, UT took the rare step of including comments from other players.

"Coach Fulmer laid down the law at our meeting," junior quarterback Erik Ainge said in a statement. "He made it very clear that we had not had problems in a long time, and he would not tolerate problems in the future. Marvin is a good kid and hasn't been in trouble since he's been here, but he made a mistake." n

Senior defensive tackle Turk McBride added, "Coach Fulmer has made it very clear what is expected of us. He was very angry and very emotional at our meeting (Monday) night. I think the guys understand that he's not going to tolerate problems."

Why come out with the player statements? Because last year the boosters blasted Fulmer for a perceived lack of discipline. So, this year, Fulmer's PR machine is coming out with both guns blazing to assuage the boosters, naturally. See how in control Fulmer is? He's mad. He's "very emotional". He "won't tolerate problems". See, boosters?

No word yet on if the Vols will get bonus Fulmer Cup points for spinning.

Tennessee had problems last summer with a couple bad seeds. They straightened that out now. Tenn is not some school notorious for trouble! Fulmer and Cutcliffe have those guys on a short leash for sure now. I wouldn't be suprised to see a complete turn around and Tenn make it to a BCS bowl.

Seems every school has it problems. Lets hope that the headlines are about good football this season and not about who's in what jail. Seems that it's not just one or 2 school's, seems like everone of them.

There is apparently rampant abuse of hallucinogenic drugs on the whole campus
