Vols to join the new football uniform club

Feast your eyes on these, Tennessee fans. It looks like the Vols are getting new football uniforms for the 2008-2009 season, complete with some blast-from-the-past details.

Third Saturday in Blogtober has the deets on the new Tennessee uniforms:

If the specs are correct, it appears that the old-school orange pants from the days of Johnny Majors may make a big comeback for the road games this season. That’s a HUGE change seeing how the Vols haven’t worn the orange pants with the white stripes since 1992. They’ve always worn the white-on-white under Fulmer, but apparently, the buzz surrounding the orange-on-orange that UT wore in the SEC Championship Game last year was considerable enough for adidas to make some changes.

The nameplates on the road whites will return to orange (which I've always been inclined to call sherbert) and the side numbers have moved from the shoulders down to the jersey sleeves, which is -- of course -- awesomeness.

The 3SiB boys also note that Tennessee coach Phil Fulmer has almost always kept the white-on-white look for the roadies, rather than the orange road pants of the Majors era. It'll be interesting to see how often we see the sherbert shorts during the season.
