Vince Young: 'I plan on coming back'

According to the Dallas Morning News, Texas junior QB Vince Young told reporters on Monday that he was returning for his senior year next season.

"I just stay humble and tell people I signed to play here, and I'm playing here," Young said. "I'm coming back [next year]. That decision, I'm not thinking about it right now. I'm worrying about Oklahoma State and sending our seniors out with a bang.

"You've got to leave that decision open. But right now I plan on coming back."

Certainly doesn't mean he won't change his mind, especially if things continue on their current course and UT is able to run the table. But for now, it looks like he is holding the line.

The Heisman front runner also apologized for striking a familiar pose after a touchdown on Saturday, as the Longhorns thumped Texas Tech.

"I don't want people thinking I've got an ego. I was just playing with some of my teammates, who were like, 'Let me see it.' I just gave them a little taste, not the whole thing."

Young said he won't strike the Heisman pose again – unless he wins the trophy.

Vince Young should come back next year. You've got to figure Reggie Bush will win the Heisman this year, so if nothing else it would make Young the favorite for the trophy next year. As for the national title picture, I believe if Texas wins the ADT Trophy this year, Vince is gone. It always sounds good to say you are sticking around next year, but until the season is over I don't think the decision will be made.

Why would he return ? Some have projected him to be the second QB taken in the draft. He's a first rounder in everybody's estimation.

This statement sounds like he's just trying to deflect a potential distraction.

"You've got to leave that decision open. But right now I plan on coming back."

Those sound like the words of a man who will leave given the right opportunity.

Vince Young should come back for his senior season, considering this year he may not even win the heisman and going into next year if bush and lienart are both gone, then who else is there? Vince Young should stay for another year and win the heisman next year and he will have more experience and a better chance in the league.

"He's a first rounder in everybody's estimation." until he gets into those private workouts and starts missing receivers left and right.

No. I believe Vince when he says he is coming back. One of the reasons why his teammates have such faith in Vince, and he is the unquestioned leader of this team, is that he says what he means and does what he says.

This is a guy with unbelievable talent that redshirted, and played behind players he knew he could learn from, and is a much more complete player because he has done all the right things. Coming back another year didn't hurt Leinart. Why would it hurt Vince?

Say what you will...believe what you want, but unless you know the real person, you have no room to talk. If I remember correctly, there was a whole lot of BS talk his sophmore year....well.........
    Who's the monkey now??????

Vince Young has a great opportunity to repeat as a national champ, win the Heisman, and be the number one pick overall. Why would he not return. Roy Williams stayed, Benson stayed, and you watch Young will stay. Mack Brown is great at convincing young players to give one more year.

Missing receivers left and right? Yeah, that's why his PE rating is 165.0, higher than Quinn's and Leinart's.

That's not to suggest that VY wouldn't improve by having a senior year, but the complaints about his passing are, well, passe.

I'm sure that he's a smart kid. If he can afford to stay in college, win a NC title and a Heisman, why wouldn't he? Those things only come around once in a lifetime. If he goes pro, he either sits on the bench, or gets the hell beat out of him. What does he accomplish next year? Nothing! That's why Leinart stayed in school. That money is always there. He'll be playin' pro for a long time. But, you only get four years of college ball. He'll gain more experience by playing one more year at the college level than he will ridin' the pine for some mediocre pro team.
As a Trojan fan - I sure hope that he comes back. Yes, he would be the favorite for the Heisman and Texas would be the #1 team going into next year. Much similar to what USC had going this year. It would be a good opportunity to see how USC can transition (losing Leinart and Bush?) and still keep up with the "Big Boyz". I beleive that USC will push LenDale White for the Heisman next year - if he stays in school. I don't see how Bush could stay right now. He could get injured and lose alot of money. The legs are everything to a running back. QB is different. A leg injury would not hurt a QB as much as it might a RB. I think with Booty coming in at QB that the load would fall to White. That will be the enticement for him to return. They'll give him the rock about thirty times a game and give Vince a run for the Heisman. I'm all for any kid staying in school - except when his legs are such a valuable asset that he can't afford to take an injury. This cost McGahee considerably. Vince isn't going to be running around too much in the pros - so, his legs aren't going to be his biggest asset. His brains are what are going to serve him well. He can start by making the right decision for any QB and stay in school and finish getting his degree. He has nothing to gain by going pro this year. Just some money - which just might get him into some kind of trouble. Another year of maturity would be the right move.

Tommie, as right as you are on this, the chance of that happening are slim. I'm sure everyone in Austin is dreading the day Vince Young leaves, but once that multi-million dollar offer comes around, most of us also agree he would have to be crazy to pass it up.
Vince isnt a traditional QB like Matt Leinart, he still gets himself in a lot of potentially dangerous situations, its what makes the Texas offense so hard to stop, that third just as lethal option. What would be the point of coming back and not be able to play like he's used to doing, just so he doesnt get hurt.
As for the Benson and Roy Williams arguement, neither of those guys had been this hyped up by the time they were Juniors. They needed their Senior seasons to bolster their position in the draft.

I think that Vince YOung will notice that it is pointless to stay, instead of getting to make millioons of of lots of cap room in the teams that would draft him.

I hope Young leaves that will mean that Texas Tech will have a huge advantage in winning the big 12 next year. All it will take is a lot of money rubbed in his face and Vince will go Pro. Anyway who wants to see a self arrogant QB from Texas again, like we dont see cocky bastards from that part of the state anyway.

Ok TEXAS WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP and Vince Young played a big part in that. I think he should stay cause he is the only way they can make it back once again and get it back to back. But now if he wants to go PRO then i would tell him to go and have fun. But the only thing is I feel he anit ready for the Pros yet he still needs to win the Heisman before he goes.

I think Vince Young Should be drafted By the Texans But on the other hand I know vince doesn't want to be Second string QB. So they probably wont draft him...

i say vince is a great qb.
all of u can shut up if u were offered 5 million a year + signing bonus up to 3 mil would u take it i think he will get a lot more then that but thats and estimate by the coach but in a inter view vince said hes getting offered 112 million for 10 years did not say by who but thats what he said so would u not take that hes great but its not just bout leaveing if this kids got respect[not aying he dosint] he will come back an honor his team but he could easly get hert an there gos his 112 mil so hes got to make a decision.
like my bro is geting offers from pro teams and he a junior in high school Tony Caldwell for 4 million a year 2 mil sighing bonus for 5 years as a 2 string half back so watch out.. heres a story i lost my chance staying i could of been the next second string Qb for the patriot in 1999 but i messed my arm up second game of the season of my college carear western kentucky devision 1 double a so i say it could happend so i think he should leave. but im doing fine as a reporter for football.

IM KIND OF GLAD THAT VINCE IS GOING PRO IT WILL HURT THE LONGHORNS ALOT BUT IF HE STAYS ANOTHER YEAR THERE IS ALWAYS THAT CHANCE OF GETTING AN INJURY THEN WONT BE ABLE TO GO PRO

We'll be alright. VY's presence will definately be missed, but we'll be alright. The 2006 Longhorns are loaded. Everyone gets stuck on the idea that Vince was the team.

Vince lead the team and displayed heart and determination. But there's a whole whack of returning starters from that national champ team, as well as one of the top 3 recruiting classes from this last February.

VY's been forever immortalized by the college football world, but UT can repeat without him.
