NASCAR to pay homage to Longhorns
BevoSports relates that Michael Waltrip will drive a special edition car to honor Texas' 2005 national championship.
Michael Waltrip will drive a special edition Aaron’s #99 car in April 8th’s NASCAR Busch Series race at Texas Motor Speedway. The car will feature a special orange and white paint job and graphics to honor the 2005 National Champion Texas Longhorn football team. You’ll also be able to purchase 1/24-scale die cast model cars at Aaron’s locations near you.
It certainly seems that NASCAR teams/sponsors are trying to promote their brands & make a little money with promotions for college football. Last season, teams ran Florida State and Florida paint jobs in NASCAR.

Two things Pete. First, that's one of the more illiterate posts I've seen.
Second, it's all about marketing and Texas does it much better than USC. It's not NASCAR that's doing it, it's an individual car owner and sponsor. They probably want to increase their reach into Texas and this was a great way to do so.
Plus I'm pretty sure USC's target fan base (Snoop Dogg and ESPN) aren't the biggest NASCAR fans in the world.

Good post Brian. I hope Pete is not a USC alumnus, as he sets a horrible example for Trojans everywhere . Still his post is important, as a representative of the only demographic in California who watch NASCAR...illiterate hicks.

Also Pete, maybe it was because USC didn't win two National Championships.

Pete, I was going to post a reply to your backwoods hilbilly comment, but I think you get the point. By the way, just sound out the big words you can do it.
I need some help from a fellow Texan. I want a diecast of the car, but I am 5 hours from the nearest Aarons store that will have them for sale.
I am a recruiter for the National Guard and can make it worth you trouble with a Natioal Guard item for your next race.

Hey Dave Its a good thing that U.T. has an outstanding athletic program.I guess two major men's National Championship teams are good for one year.Baseball & Football. You will not have to come to Austin and getted wupped again in football we will play your state's Wildcats this year without their winningest coach. At least the Jayhawks can compete at the same level in one sport. Hookem

Dave,
Nice NCAA tournament for KU. KU's football team is garbage 66-14 (could of scored 100), and the BBall team isn't what it used to be. Also, does it take like 4 weeks for news to reach Kansas? The Big XII tournament was like a month ago. Nice timing, moron.

In Kansas news gets around fine, your just a sore loser! Have fun with no vince young. I see the sooners taking the red river this year. KU football is the least of our worries, congrats on your national titles, it is always good to see a big 12 team do well, im just talking about bball, so if you wanna talk football, your talking to the wrong jayhawk. in basketball the scoreboard dont lie.

why has texas never won a big 12 bball title nor a recent appearance to the final four? next year we will find out more when a strong group of sophomores and juniors come in pre-ranked #2 and see if they cant repeat big 12 champs and show the long horns what its like to run the court.

Actually, Texas won the Big XII title this year, in a tie breaker over KU (head to head). KU won the Big XII tournament. Texas also went to the Final Four in 2003, and to the elite 8 this year. For a school that is primaraly considered a football school that's not bad. KU is a basketball school and has been disappointing since Roy Williams left.

Enjoyed debating with you, both teams are equally talented and have different types of success on their side, its not for us to argue now, lets set back and see how it plays out on the courts and fields.Bill Self is slowly bringing back KU to the old days of dominance. Its going to be an interesting 2006-07 season. I know i will be at every home game cheering them on. best of luck to your longhorns.
