Horns Adopt New Battle Cry: Remember the Asterisk!
The Oklahoma Sooners may have represented the South Division in the Big XII Championship, defeated the Missouri Tigers to capture the conference title, gone on to the BCS, yada, yada, yada... but that hasn't stopped the Texas Longhorns from claiming their share of the Big XII Championship*.
This photo, attributed to Austin American-Statesman beat writer Suzanne Halliburton, was taken inside Texas' Moncrief-Neuhaus training facility, showing the Longhorns Big 12 championships, including 2008 with an asterisk.

The Longhorns did tie Oklahoma and Texas Tech for the South Division crown, but the Sooners held the tie-breaker under Big XII conference rules.
This isn't Big XII South Division championships, mind you. (There's another wall for those recognitions.) Rather this is for the Big XII Championship... where the burnt-orange logic is that UT beat both the Sooners and the Tigers during the 2008 season.
I can't wait to hear some Longhorns defend this one.
The asterisk is vaguely reminiscent of Auburn's "People Championship" rings from a few years ago. In fact, I guess it wouldn't be out of line for Auburn to claim the Big XII Championship either, since Auburn beat Mississippi St... who beat Vanderbilt... who beat Mississippi.... who beat both Florida (who beat Oklahoma) and Texas Tech (who beat Texas).
Congratulations to the Auburn Tigers, Big XII Champions*!

UPDATE
Maybe it's the power of Fanblogs, but... Horns coach Mack Brown says that "2008*" will be taken off the wall.
